NC500 concerns.

You're unlikely to get it empty like we used to back in the day when you could absolutely hammer it all the way down, not a single corner to take you by surprise and it used to be covered in freshly laid shell grip, now it's more like a splattering on the stuff, hope you get the weather though, it's magical.

I shall adhere to the posted limits and enjoy the views, weather permitting. It isn't all about the speed and reading about the NC500 in every mag and rag, will certainly bring a twat or two into the equation, so one must be alert and anticipate such ocurances.
It be great to have weather on my side, as it is a long way up to get there from down south for a weeks worth of soggy roads and fog.

In the past, when roads were much quieter - that was a seriously fast piece of smooth tarmac, with complete sight of the road ahead for miles.

Some won't be surprised to know I didn't keep that bike long

I was up there week before last. Second time round. Visible hostility around the Lochinver/Drumbeg/Kylestrome area with painted over signposts and 'go home, stop the NC500' posters in windows etc. The road between the 3 isn't really suitable for lots of traffic, especially campers and I can see the frustration.

Elsewhere, everyone seemed very happy to have tourists back, bar one or two morons who can't read a 'no campervans' sign or just can't drive one full stop.

Bikers made to feel welcome everywhere, I suppose we are less likely to cause traffic jams and leave tents at the side of the road. More roadside camping than I've seen up there before, but I think the midges might be going to work on that in mid August.

Traffic wise, it was perhaps a tad busier than my last trip which was a bit earlier in the year, but still miles and miles of traffic free open road. Lovely.

Just back from a quick trip around NC500, ended up being 900 miles in two days.

Spotted 1 1250gs and 1 1150 gsa,

Quite a few R9T.

Not a lot of bikes about, nor campervan's either. Only got stuck behind one moron, just after Helmsdale, who failed to understand the part of let faster vehicles pass.

Just back from a quick trip around NC500, ended up being 900 miles in two days ......

I'm up that way next month Alan ... good to hear it's quietened down a bit, hope it'll be even quieter then!

The moron in the camper had probably hired it ....I bet 50% of the feckers are hired, or borrowed, with no knowledge of the etiquette of using single carriageway roads with passing places

I'll be keeping mostly off the 500 as best I can ....

I'll be using recognised sites and shop local

Saw maybe a dozen on the road, and only got stuck behind one motorhome, which was holding up two campervan's and nine cars.

Most of the bikes were individuals, two large groups of motorcycles and hardly any foreign number plates.

There were lots of motorhomes parked up, but maybe they were stay off the road, because they heard I was in the vicinity.

Agreed, it was a lot quite than I expected, bit like it was several years back, shops weren't that busy, 24°c at Chocolate Mountain at Helmsdale, even went for a paddle.

I've seen far more, I would say in general it is quieter, lot less bikes too.
