There's been a lot of talk around the Highlands about the NC500. The police are going to crack down this summer as many people are coming up in super cars to 'do the NC500' as a rally or race.

I live on the route and have seen quite a few of these cars about lately, many more than in previous years, and never put 2 and 2 together till now. Some locals in the northern and western villages are saying cars (and bikes) are racing through with little regard for the roads, as quite a bit is single track and lambs/sheep are on the verges.

So be careful out there !

I was up there a month ago with the intention of completing the NC500.
I saw groups of rally cars from the continent but not many bikes as I did my trip Monday to Friday.
On the way home (Friday), riding south through Glencoe there was a build up of bikes heading north, presumably for the weekend.
I missed the North East part of the NC500 and consentrated on the West because the weather was better.
Brilliant.:thumb2

The locals will know the best time to ride up there, but from what I saw it's obviously better mid week as it is with most places.

I was up Gairloch/Ullapool/Laxford Bridge last weekend and that's the most amount of bloody camper vans I've ever seen up that way before.

was up there for 4 days in the last 2 weeks and didnt see a single copper on the 500. im sure they were around, but the 18 (in 3-4 groups) of us didnt see any.

Just got back this afternoon, went up to Ullapool from Edinburgh on Monday. Stayed at the Caledonia Hotel, several Porsche cars there from down sarf, and a group of germans touring on BMW C1's. Didn't see any cops except in Edinburgh, no sign of 'death race 2000' :D

I can agreewith the OP ,. I did the full 500 two weeks ago, thread on here. We saw two big groups of Porche 911 type owners, one UK plates driving fairly quick. And one from Germany, driving very sedately.

However between Thurso and Scourie we came across some Brits in MG roadsters. They behaved like total wa......s. Diving into roundabouts no indication then hooting with laughter, it was like a 50's Ealing comedy.

Only radar trap we saw was Fri morning at Lochernhead where two bobbies were stood where it chages from 50 to 30 mph. They were well into the 30 and doing a good job in controlling speed into yhis little town.

The NC with all its singletrack and blind bends is great for a grand tour, its definitely a Quick blast tour.
