What are they all moaning about??I thought to myself, headlight cant be that bad on the GS surely!!

Well I've just been out and ridden it for the first time in the dark down a few miles of country lanes. Thank God for the tail lights of other traffic leading the way. At one point I was convinced the road carried straight on and to my utter surprise I found a 90 left!! I was quite close to entering a large hedge on the offside.

As a result I was forced to reduce my speed to a crawl and a 10 mile journey has taken me 15 days:mad:

I'm absolutley staggered by the inadequate light and will be attaching some Maglite torches top the front end for my next journey until I can afford the kit to fit soem extra candle power to it.

Yeh makes for some "interesting" moments even on roads you know well!

Loads of info just search... I went for the HID conversion from NN, expensive but well worth it.

I found the light no worse than my previous Y-reg Bandit. The definition seems to be much sharper though so the light available reduces dramatically when going round left handers in particular.

I agree it's no fun and the only interim way to address the situation (can't afford (so the wife tells me) and more to the point I begrudge spending £££'s on an HID conversion) was to adjust the lamp upwards.

In it's current position my ADV will probably fail the MOT when due, but as I use it for commuting I thought a little bit of dazzle during daylight should make me more visible to on coming motorists wanting to turn left.

I have looked briefly into getting extra lights but haven't found a bespoke kit recommended anywhere. Wouldn't like a Mr Heath and Robinson approach on the bike.

As an aside car headlamps are so much brighter these days that I struggle to see past them as they come towards me whether I'm on the bike, or in the car. Not sure what the answer is really other then to slow down at night.

Beemer- I cannot believe that you are ranting on about the crappy lights!!! Especially after i told you ages ago when i got mine that they were rubbish!! You never listen to me do you? no never, you muppet. moan moan, mutter mutter...... And whats worse, you blaming your complete inadequacy as a rider on a pair of head lights.... get some training, proper training, I mean:D
if you can't handle that big motorbike, then get a pushbike, and strap the aforementioned maglites to it, you should just about be able to cope with the power of that!

Proof GS riders really are tossers? After all, it is supposed to make you go blind.........

I'm planning on making a trip to Alan sometime in the next year (once sons' cup footie matches are out of the way and oh then there's the cricket...). Here's my present solution.

I was heavily influenced by a crusty old bloke who was having his GS serviced at SPC a couple of years ago. He was 'real hard', man... muscles like corded steel... every other word began with 'F'. "I can't see a f... thing, man! I just put my f... lights on f... high beam and leave 'em f... on... I don't give a f..." He didn't know it but the two blokes on the same table were police motorcyclists (I don't think he could f... see their f... uniforms...) I had been chatting to them before Crusty arrived. I watched to see their reaction: they both just grinned and murmured, "yeah, they're not very bright..." Anyway, on the A3 back to Pompey in lashing rain I've followed Crusty's advice - I know I'll get criticised for 'dazzling' etc - but when it's a case of not seeing a f... thing I tend think Crusty was right... AND I've never been flashed once.

I'd appreciate it if you could post a few photos of your lights at night, showing the beam spread etc, prefarably with another standard GS as a comparison?

I'm thinking about the NN HID kit but want proof before spending that sort of money.

Proper training?? Yeah actually you're right, where was it you got your licence from???
Something to do with a photocopier wasn't it?
I dont know how you've got away with it for so long especially riding a "loud yellow" one!!

:mooney

Git!!!

I think previous owner must have stuck superdooperbright bulbs or sumik on my bike cos they are fine unless I have to go round a corner at which point I have to get off and walk. :D
