Need a softer brake pad for my 1977 ATE R80

OK..went out on her yesterday and she runs absolutely superbly . No problems for this 49 years old Lady, except a minor issue with the brake pads !
Single 'rust in a day' brake disc but I do need softer more grippy brake pads. Little use on the ones currently fitted, which clunk a tad on braking, ( maybe get the belt sander on them ) but would be open to suggestions on replacement set of pads.
(Going a twin disc set-up is to prohibitive cost wise ). Brakes will never be fantastic I know.

Trouble with you Ken is that you’ve got too many bikes, and in your question is the answer, the rust ferrous oxide will soon glaze the pads, almost any pads in my experience..If each time you use the bike rust is cleaned off the disc with the pads, also the first harder braking applied of this abrasive (rust) on the disc can cause uneven pad wear..

A bit of a faff but if you see rust gently clean it off with brake cleaner and wet and dry, use the bike more, ride to Pontblyddyn and panad on me..

Kenny, a single disc on these bikes is a bit desperate, so it needs to be adjusted properly - assume you've done that, yes? Forgive me if your Ninja status covers brakes!

Get rid of the cast disc.
What size master cylinder is fitted?
Is it ,under tank or bar mounted?
Either way ,improving it will involve spending dosh

All aftermarket. Brakes working well and properly adjusted; merely wondering if there was a softer pad available ( Lord knows how they
managed in 1977 ! ) I'll roughen up the pads and if that doesn't work then maybe contact motorworks and ask about pads etc )

See if there is a diameter marked on the master cylinder,
Anything bigger than 12 mm will make the brakes feel a bit “ wooden”.
Also there’s 2 sizes of ATE caliper,38mm and 40.
If it’s got a 38 fitted ,fitting a 40 would improve things.
If the hydraulic ratio is off ,softer pads won’t make much difference.
Oh,and get a better disc
