I'm 1500 miles into my new GSTE
A few gripes - I still prefer the old indicator, and I'm not convinced by the GPS wheel control - and can't read the speedo either!
But these are minor gripes - nitpicking.
Absolutely loving the thing.
It goes better than I thought it would.
Handles better than I ever believed a GS would.
I smile every time I ride it.
Nuff said.

But.
I could do with a lower seat - anyone bought one out there? Any good?

And a taller screen - an extra inch or two should do it ( fnarr fnarr!) any re commendations?

Ta,

Mike.

Ta,

Mike.

I have a low seat as I have a 29inch leg, which I use in the high position. So far I haven't done any mileages over 160 miles in one go. But I find the seat OK although I have an airhawk cushion for longer rides.

I have the lower seat on the lowest setting for my 29" legs and I still need to lean the bike slightly to one side to put my foot down flat.
I did do a 12hr trip a few months ago (with a few stops) and my @rse was fine , but I used an airhawk all the way. I have tried about 100 miles without the airhawk and I end up with a numb bum.

I have just installed the new Powerbronze screen as the normal screen is a bit too low and narrow for my large frame. I haven't had a chance to test it out yet, but it looks like it will do the job to keep the small amount of wind off the top of my head and shoulders.

I've just got back from a trip to the Ulster GP with the longest stint in the saddle being 160 miles. Total for the day was 290 and my arse was in agony towards the end so I think I need to look into one of these airhawks.

As an aside, apart from the numb bum I can honestly say there isn't another bike I'd rather have been on for the 600 mile round trip. :thumb2

I have the GS LC low seat....no issues at all, it's fine, better than my previous standard Triumph Explorer seat!

Before you go running off for an Airhwk...

Ask yourself whether your 290 mile in a day / 160 mile in a single stretch was a one off, just to see the Ulster Grand Prix. If your more usual ride is much less, you won't be needing it. After all, you've managed without one for (possibly) years.

However, if it's just that you are new to 'long distance' jaunts (290 miles ain't that far in a day, it's London to the Cotswolds and back, with two 30 minute stops and a 90 minute lunch, for me) work yourself into it.... It's why you bought the awesome bike, no doubt.

:beerjug:

PS I did a post in the Pub section that sports bikes are more comfortable than 'Adventure Tourers'. It seems I may have been right.

Already on the waiting list for a Sargent seat.

With a 29" ISL I've always found the narrow waist on the Sargent makes it much easier to get my foot down and so so comfy on long days.

Can't comment on the seat but I use a NN screen that works superbly for me, found the stock screen was just a few inches short.
Now I ride up to indecent speeds but with visor open and no buffeting.

However pretty much impossible to adjust at higher speeds as the air pressure is too much for the adjuster.

Captain, ask your dealer to swap your standard seat to the bmw low seat. He should be willing to do that, just as mine did after a week of riding. I do not need the low seat, unless riding two up for extra stability.

My previous experiences with the bmw low seat were that it was too hard. The new LC low seat is much improved and very comfortable.

I've seen a nice TT windscreen, perhaps that's a good option too.

Good luck, ride safe.

For longer tours I would use cycling shorts with padded bottoms instead of underpants. Helps ease the numb bum effect.

Brilliant idea shunter :thumby:

I've noticed with my Rukka pants i'm ok ,but with some other pants after about 100 miles it gets quite painful ,

Is that on the standard seat or the Enduro gel seat?

No the standard seat Nutty :rob

I sometimes use the standard seat (not often though) just in case I need to take a passenger, ;)

Ah, ok. I find the standard seat more comfortable than the Enduro gel seat, for longer journeys.:comfort

WC higher wider screen

+1 on the NN screen :thumb
I used a Powerbronze screen, which I'm told is the same as NN's. Huge improvement, most noticeable when I put the standard screen back on when putting the bike up for sale!
(Powerbronze screen on ebay now)

Pity you didn`t offer it on here first, I`d have had it off you.
