Ok first sorry if i'm not supposed to post this and mods feel free to delete if i am breaking any rules asking for some discs to be copied!

Anyway heres my problem:

I have Mapsource + update discs and i have legal unlock codes for 3 units (a Quest, an Etrex and an Edge). I only have the one set of discs though, and the update discs need the initial mapsource installation (from the Quest disc) to work. I'm selling the Quest and the update discs + codes for the quest...BUT i realised that i will need these discs in case my laptop dies and i need to reinstall. There are 3 discs to copy in total (city nav V8 inc mapsource set up, CN v9 and CN 2008)

The discs are dual layer i think (updates are about 7G) and i dont currently have access to a dual layer DVD writer. My options are therefore making an ISO image and burning at a later date (when i buy a dual layer writer) and hoping this works ok or hopefully persuading someone to copy the DVD's for me!!

I can post discs with some blank dual layer ones + pay return postage and some beer money for anyone who can do it :D

PM me if you can help

Garmin Discs

All the Garmin Mapping discs I've ever come across, including CN2009 all fit on an ordinary single layer DVD and are max 2.5Gb. If yoiu wanted to check this out you could look in the various torrent sites at the size of the downloads on offer. I don't think its illegal just to look!!

So I would go with your original idea of making ISO images, or just copy on a single layer burner/disc.

HTH if you need more advice.

You've got the unlock codes, and the discs are useless without them, so there's no problem :thumb2

CN 09 NT definitely fits easily on a single layer dvd, but IIRC they don't like being copied.

i think you might need to use Alcohol 100% or similar program to do it, not Nero. not sure though.

You can burn double layer DVD ISOs with Nero :thumb2

i did an image file for CN 2008 update disc and its 7.96Gb (i used alcohol 120% to do the file). But a DVD is only 4.7 Gb isnt it? SO doe this mean it needs a dual layer disc

as i remember, it wasn't a question of capacity. nero just wouldn't see the garmin disc properly to copy it. something more specialist was called for.

Image sizes

Red1200 your image size indicates there is something wrong. I just checked mine :
CN2008 2.16GB
CN2008NT 1.48GB

So you need to image again with Alcohol 120% or ImgBurn 2.4.2

thats odd

i put my disc dvd in and clicked properties and it comes up as 7.76Gb. Treis to reimage with alcohol 120% and image file is 7.96Gb again (i'm using the default settings in alcohol 120% and file is a media descriptor image (.mds extension) Should i use ISO?

The dvd is just called City Navigator Europe update DVD and says 2008 on it. Why is my DVD so large ?????

If anyone can copy me their small 2008 version then PM me!

Cn 2008 is 7.76GB but you don't need to copy all the disk..
If you put the disk in the drive and when it auto runs ,close it down...then right clickon the drive it in My computer and select EXPLORE so you can see all the files and folders.
Select all of them except folder "rgn" which is 5.92GB and burn to a normal DVD ...

when you want to install to a new pc do it from the CN.msi file

This is asuming you want the setup in english... for other countries click the relevent .msi file you can do this from an update disk without any previous versions installed
