Last set of Frank Thomas went down the road with me inside and I wasnt impressed by their gravel resistance. So I need new jacket and pants suitable for all year round wear ( have a heated waistcoat for winter if necessary). Unfortunately there is an eyeball glazing range available and how on earth do you chose what is good value and also good protection? I dont do a lot of miles and am not the slightest bit brand / fashion conscious.

For protection would I be better off with leather, adding a waterproof oversuit for rain and some sort of fleece lining etc for cold? I would prefer fabric because of the convenience but protection is the most important factor.

So what do you recommend I look at at the forthcoming NEC show?

Halvarssons Mercury pants and matching jacket. Expensive but at the same time much cheaper then the equivalent Rukka.............your worth it.:thumb

There is so much good kit out there but the most important thing is FIT! You can spend a fortune on 'quality kit' but if it don't fit, it's worthless. That's why I never recommend mail order. Get in the dealers and try it on. If the armour fits and it feels comfortable and it has a good reputation then buy it. Don't be scared to say to a dealer, nah, this don't feel right. You've only got one body, wrap it in what works for you. That'll be the items that fit right, feel right, work right, do right. The things you don't take into consideration is, what's popular?how do I look? what will people think? does my bum look big in this? If you have to wear a pink helmet and matching leathers and it does the job, then go for it (OK, only joking on that bit).

+1 on fit!

I am now a short, fat bastard size (roughly XL short leg) and am limited in the range of clothing that fits to get the knee (or elbow in the case of a jacket) protection in the right place and not moving around.

I'm in the same conundrum with replacing my jacket, my Rev It one seems to rip rather too easily, it was ok sliding down a grass verge but i wouldn't really want to go sliding down the road with it if I had to!!

Trousers, I went for Hood Jeans, they have very good kevlar inner lining that covers most of the lower body, then if it gets cold i put on the Rev It thermal trousers over the jeans. I'm not sure how efficient the foam type inserts are in the case of an off? The Hood jeans also have the option of knee/hip protection inserts.

Last pair of jeans I had were Draggin and the only issue i had was the legs come in one length and you have to shorten them, the kevlar lining then felt to me to be in the wrong place! Hood you can order online to whatever inseam length you require :beerjug:
