How many miles has the bike done ?

I received some bumpf from BMW UK saying they will replace the Cardon shaft after 35000 miles are achieved :thumby:

I've heard they do have to cut some of these out ..... but I personally haven't gone thru this or have helped anyone with this problem but there will be some who have done this along shortly, and we all can learn ...

The mechanic (after soaking in penetrating oil) would typically pry it back with a bar that will fit well against the Ujoint and not damage the alu output housing, or use a metal plate to protect the housing. Then if necessary roatae the shaft 180 deg and pry again, repeat, repeat

cheers fellas,i will ring bmw in the morning for him (its a mates bike ,not mine)i will close the thread as i thing the phone call is the best option

I tried to split my FD myself to lube the splines with Moly paste and Staburag on my (then) two-year old GSA I had just bought approved used at 14,000 miles……..I couldn’t shift it and spoke to the dealer about it.

They replaced the entire shaft and FD under the rubber drain bung modification scheme as the drive apparently failed their cardan test procedure.

That's a very good point .... Has the bike had the Drive Shaft recall work done ?
It has now, I was supposed to wait in turn for the recall but they decided to do it all early seeing as it was in need of sorting.

They had tried to unseize it, gave up and just unbolted the FD from the swingarm knuckle, split the shaft at the gearbox end and threw it all straight in the skip.

Do you know what the mileage is ?
it just coming up to 25 thousand,it was absolutly solid at both ends ,if someone told me it was welded i would have beleived them.
anyway i have just put it back together .
i realy did not want to bang away with a chizel
i am sure a dealership comes across this many times
will see what they say .
