Need some mercury - or a balancer recommendation!

The old man has been passing down his bike related bits and pieces. He had an R75 (1976) and 1100LT so some of the tools are useful.

I was pleased to take a Carbtune balancer off his hands which I need for the new to me 1150GS.

The bad news is that the mercury has pretty much disappeared (leaked out?) - see the close up photo.

So I'm either after some mercury (which a Google suggests you can't get hold of) or recommendations for a balancer.

I don't want to spend a fortune on something I'll use once a year. Are the DIY set ups using long pieces of tube and transmission oil good enough?

Cheers

I made myself a Manometer (simply a long piece of tube), and used 3 in 1 oil. It works - but I'd recommend something heavier and easier to see. The 3-in-1 is a bit light both in colour and density - so it tends to vibrate a little to much as the imbalance pushes it up and down.

How weird is that.

I have just sent an email to Morgan Carbtune enquiring re exactly the same issue - sort of.

I have a 4 cylinder version of Carbtune 1 and it seems that some of the mercury has disappeared over time. Same applied vacuum using a large bore syringe gives different readings on all columns so when I have been "balancing" my TB's on the 1150R I actually haven't.....

I'm not really expecting a positive response from Carbtune but if you don't ask you don't get.

Also seeking recommendations for replacement.

Cheers

I'd be interested to hear what they say DJ. My theory is that the mercury has leaked out at some point.

Thanks for the other suggestions.

I've been offered a Carbtune Pro which I'm picking up tomorrow.
