I've got Monday off work so I mentioned to my mate I may go out for a ride somewhere. He said 'have you been to Neil Morrisey's pub?' He saw a programme about it & always fancied going.

So, I Googled it & it's in Grafton cum Marton near Boroughbridge in North Yorkshire - Ye Olde Punchbowl Inn.

Anybody been to the premises?
Would a sweaty biker be welcomed in for a pint & a meal?
Any good rides nearby?

I'll be riding from North Wales so I plan to make a day of it. (unless anyone can point me to a campsite in the area)

Thanks in advance :thumb2

I assume you would. I'm pretty sure he still owns the Three Mariners in Laugharne, Carmarthenshire (not Larne Ireland) as well, and I've never had a problem turning up there on a bike.

Well, they let me in and have been doing since I used to walk there instead of school.
Lido caravan site,about a mile from Knaresborough,have a camping bit. 01423 865169. Easy to find,about 2 miles from the A1.
K'boro is a small market town with lots of pubs.....'nuff said.

Its a bit posh on an evening, the food is a bit expensive and too fancy for me. I was not on the bike but I would stand out and feel very unwanted if I turned up in wet bike gear. This was a Saturday evening and I had to sit to one side with my beer while groups in dinner jackets sat round sipping G&Ts while looking at the leather bound menues.
It could be completely different mid week so its worth a try, there are plenty of other locals near if you don't like it.

Saturday afternoon, very quiet!

I had blonde ale battered haddock with green pea puree & thick cut fried potatoes (fish, chips & peas)

Sitting out front put me contact with the snoutcasts popping out for a smoke.

So they wouldn't let you eat inside then?

There's a garden in the back & F1 quali's were on the TV inside but as it was such a nice day I wanted to sit out front with the bike. I got the impression of a normal blokes pub, nothing upmarket although the website gives that impression.

The IPA was very refreshing & I took home 2 unopened bottles of Morrissey Fox blonde ale.

Good for a stop off point but I wouldn't make a special journey there again.

Should there be a comma between blonde and ale. If so, that is my kind of starter:thumb
