Can i take two children (9 and 12) over the pass in a 4x4 (road tyres) in April. I.e. is it easy and safe?

I have travelled Morocco a few times on my F800GS and want to share the experience with my wife and kids. I wanted to show them some scenery and though this pass may be the right one, but I've never done it myself.

Thoughts?

Rgrds,
Steve.

Road tyres......50/50

If it's the slightest bit wet, no.
There are some pretty big steps and lots of football sized loose stuff on the upper hairpins.

It's also one of those routes that can change in a day...we've done it one day and found it easy on GSAs, but the next day it was literally impassible unless you were a good rider on a 250.

The tourist 4x4s do it, but two years ago they completed a tarmac section that cuts the need to use that route, so since then, it's been deteriorating.

go play in the valley of the roses from the bottom of the Dades gorge heading towards Ouazazarte.....that is stunning, and once you've made the climb up from the tarmac into the valley, they are loads of routes to chose from.

If you're going to do it on road tyres it will be easier if you do it Tinerhir to Nekob, you're rolling down the worst of the steps then rather than trying to climb them. Road tyres shouldn't be too much of a problem grip wise but they will puncture much easier than decent off road tyres so take a couple of spares and plenty of things to fix punctures with just in case:thumb2 Oh, and if the weather looks like it may turn to rain be ready to turn round and give it a miss just in case.

I did that piste last October (north to south) without any problem. Definitely this it’s one of my favorites in Morocco.

On my way down from Tizi Tazazert I found a couple of tourists heading north with an Hyundai Santa Fé and they were struggling a little bit (north to south is a lot easier as MrIFan said), but also I was overtaken by an extremely old Mercedes (like in the image below) van completely full flying through the piste and I think it is normal those vehicles passing there!!!! LOL

If you came from north you should do it with your 4x4 without any problems I think.
