I'm about to push the button on buying a Shoei Neotec 3, as my Neotec 1 (which I really rated) is now end of life. But. Am concerned about the fact that purchasers of the 3 are pushed firmly towards buying the bespoke Shoei comms unit for a cool extra £300 or so. Now, I already have a perfectly functional Cardo Scala Rider Q1 comms unit fitted to my Neotec 1, which I'd intended to move over to my new helmet and I'm certainly not spending an extra £300 on the Shoei unit. However, from what I can see, it looks like this may be a deal breaker.

Can anyone advise if they've managed to successfully fit a third party comms unit in a Neotec 3?

Cardo Edge very easily fitted to Neotec 3 ; I chose to stick it on . No big deal .
Cardo Edge is light years more advanced than Scala rider

Why would you not be able to fit ANY third party desired comms to the Neotec 3 ? Mystery .
Some are crap however

I had a similar dilemma, I have Neoetec 1 and got a great deal on Neotec 2, as the 3 its designed to be used with integrated comms, I managed with little difficulty to attach my packtalk bold using the glue plate.

Thanks for the replies. What's the recommended way of sticking them on? I don't have any kit that would have been originally supplied.

Well my existing comms unit is attached via a bracket to the rim (bottom left) of my Neotec 1, held in place by two allen bolts. I don't yet have a Neotec 3 to handle, but it appears on that helmet, that location seems to be occupied by a large blanking plate or something, too thick for the clamp to get round. Also. a review I read specifically mentioned attaching other comms as being a potential issue.

My Neotec 3 is too thick , for the supplied bracket , so I’ve used the sticky attachment alternative that came with my Cardo Edge. If that’s any help .

The part you need is called a glue plate https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/22605034...6&customid=7ujeOskdAAAAz0Ao6wT7FWSDgNpHAAAAAA

I’ve just taken the plunge with a Neotec 3, which is great (custom fitted at Motolegends - I recommend) and I’ve also taken a bigger plunge by having the Sena SRL3 fitted. I really like the reviews of the Cardo Edge but wanted the seamless fit, so though I’d give the Sena a go. It’s quite good but I’m finding that the speakers/drivers could do with being about 5mm closer to my ears than they are, which would solve the audio losses I’m experiencing. It sounds fairly good whilst sitting in the kitchen and with no earplugs in, but on the road at 70mph (plugs in) it’s a tad on the quiet side.

I’ve carried out numerous searches but can’t find spacers anywhere, so I’m going to get creative and manufacture some of my own. I’ll be at the drawing board in the morning and researching how….

You can buy round 3m velcro pieces on Amazon, maybe double up?

Thanks for the suggestion. Great minds think alike! I’ve seen some 38mm diameter sticky back Velcro discs, which are cheap enough so might order some just to explore the possibilities. Doubling up might be the answer, and would also enable a gradual shimming until the speakers are at just the right proximity to the ears. Of course, I’ll post any positive results….

I've now got my new Neotec 3, and have now removed my comms unit from the old helmet. I've actually managed to find the original fitting kit, which includes 3M adhesive pads, so that's good. However, straightforward it is not...

Before I start hacking my unit about, could anyone who's fitted third-party comms to a Neotec 3 share how they did it? Did you get the bracket to go under the lip of the helmet, or just attach it flat on the side? Did you attach it at the thick area created for the Shoei unit, or otherwise make use of that area?

I found the helmet to be too thick , for the supplied Cardo clamp , so instead used their sticky mount , positioned as photo .

How do you find the Neotec 2, over your existing Neotec 1 ?
Thinking of moving to a Neotec2 or maybe going straight to the Neotec 3

Not very different from Neotec 1, I bought the 1 when 2 came out, and the 2 when 3 came out, great helmets no need to spliurge on a 3.

"2's" are a complete bargain at the minute. Main difference is they have a visor with a smaller first click opening and the lid is meant to be slightly quieter and come in the latest safety rating ECE 2206....oh, and they've "improved" the integrated comms, which in laymen's terms means they've altered the SLR Mesh for the Neotec2 so that it encourages you to fit the new one, which operates exactly the same. You can fit the earlier mesh to the new lid from what I gather though (needs an adaptor plate, now available), which means pay less for the now slightly discounted SLR Mesh integrated intercom over buying a newer SRL3 Mesh.

The 3 fulfils the most up-to-date higher ECE 22.06 safety rating, which is probably the biggest difference

The ultimate solution is found at TubsJackson. A bit of backstory: I've been very frustrated with sticky pads and crap alternatives that ruin the helmet, so I designed and manufactured my own solution and I have started selling them (to great success). They are mechanically fixed, ie you can remove it when you don't need the intercom. I've manufactured them with a company in the midlands using a sophisticated 3D printer so they are very durable and stable in the harshed weather NE Scotland could throw at me. I've done 3 types for the EDGE, BOLD and FREECOM intercoms from Cardo.
