Now I know this is subjective and some on the forum will tell me just to go and try them on and make my own decision... but given they are roughly the same price, what is the consensus?

Shoei Neotec or Schuberth C3pro?

Difficult to tell from the information available whether there's much difference in weight - but I think the Schuberth is quieter...

Also, is the latest BMW helmet the same as the C3 or C3pro? Given that the BMW intercom can be fitted to it, can it also be fitted to the C3pro or do you have to go down the SRC route?

...so many questions... no right answer...

After 15 years of BMW helmets, I have just bought a Neotec. I have a 56 size head and I am in a Neotec 55/56 - the BMW/Schuberth 56/57 is too loose.

I am very pleased with the Shoei - but I am sitting behind an RT fairing.

I have been told by numerous people that have had both the C2 and the C3 helmet that the C3 is not as quiet as the C2.

I have used a C2 helmet for 5 years and have recently bought a Shoei Neotec. I think the Neotec is at least as quiet as my C2, if not quieter.

I believe the C3 and the Neotec are very similar in weight at around 1.5 kilo.

I believe the C3 Pro is shaped slightly differently to the C3, and that the shell may be slightly smaller, therefore it may well be quieter than the C3.

I've had an ordinary C3 for 3 years now and it is the worse helmet I have had (1st flip type one).
It is very noisey, chin vent does not seem to do anything, top vent is good but noisey. Visor mists up terribly and I know it has a pinlock and you jolly well need it. Lining is coming apart.7
Apart from that it is alright.
Manufacturers / Dealers really do need to invest in something that you can try before buying to test for noise etc. Easier said than done but I am the customer and spending £500 on a helmet to walk out of the door and find that it is not for me is an issue. And yes I do sit down in the store for a good while to make sure it fits but you can't test for wind noise.

I've had a C3 since 2009. I have to say it's the quietest helmet I've worn. I've also tried Arai, AGV, Shoei and HJC lids.

I find the top vent OK, but sometimes a little too direct onto the top of the head. You can, however, reduce its effectiveness without closing it completely by moving the adjustable liner bit over the internal vent holes. This seems to resolve the issue but I tend to forget when I put the liner back in if I've had it out to wash it.

The front vent is awesome, sometimes a little too good. In conjunction with the Pinlock it keeps the visor perfectly clear with no misting and that includes riding all year around at 06:00 in temperatures down to about 0C with plenty of Yorkshire rain.

The build quality is excellent and you can't tell how old it his - well, at least not once I've washed the removable lining :augie

My only slight annoyance is the internal sun visor - it scratches incredibly easily when you try and clean it. I've been through 3 of them!

There are decent sized recesses for speakers. I didn't want to tie myself in with the SRC so went for a Scala G4. The speakers fit perfectly, as did the Autocom speakers I previously had in place.

+1 for the c3

I've had a c3 for 4 years. i have 3 other helmets one of which is a shoei multitec and i havent worn the other three since i bought the c3. it is so much quieter than the shoei. it is a tighter fit but i always found the multitec loose and it fits me perfectly. the vents work great, sometimes too well as mentioned earlier. the inner visor scratches easily and needs to be treated with care. the outer visor has just started to drop or close from the fully open position when above 40mph, this could be because its still on the original visor. if i was to change i wouldn't hesitate to buy another or the newer c3 pro.

I've got a Neotec and I'm very happy with it. Comfy, convenient, fits (just) into the RHS system pannier on an 1150GS. And the dealer had a demo that I could try before buying. Pinlock is great, haven't needed to open the visor to prevent misting (but inner sun visor can mist on frosty mornings riding into low sun).

No experience of the C3pro...

I have a Neotec, having had the System 6 previously. I find the Neotec to be more comfortable and it appears better built, but I also find it noisier than the System 6. The main issue for me is like a blustery irregular wind noise around the side rather than a general wind blast I have had on other helmets in the past. I will continue to tweak the screen on the Super Tenere to see if that helps.

Overall really impressed. As an aside, Mrs Monty has a C3 and it certainly feels a little more flimsy and "last generation", not sure what the Pro is like.

Regards,

Matt :)

I've been using a C3 for 2 years now and recently got a Neotech for work.
The lining of the shoei is far superior and fits my head better. The C3 is not as sumptuous and like many I experienced pain in my forehead after about an hours use. Ended up stripping it and making some minor adjustments with a soldering iron.
Out of the box the C3 is quieter but in order to achieve that it feels like your head has been sealed inside the helmet, very claustrophobic and something I really couldn't get used to, I removed the extra material from the chin piece, more noise but I prefer some air to get in.
C3 mists up very quickly, pinlock is a neccesity but I found that the inner visor keeps moving and allows air in, causing misting inside. Very annoying, and all 4 visors I've had have done it. Helmet City reckon its because I ride a lot with my visor up.
Only had the Neotech a few weeks but has been all day comfortable, feels less claustrophobic, pinlock has been effective and the sun visor is far easier to clean without scratching it.
The new C3 pro has I believe addressed many of the points I've raised above so may be a good buy for you, obviously down to what fits better but when I can justify buying a new helmet again I doubt it'll be the C3

Neotec

After all the advice - bear in mind individual head shape in any helmet will play its part - as I have found out today.
A prefect fit in store - ordered the Anthracite (matches my bike luckily...) Neotec in XS from the shop and was very excited when delivery came about.
Unfortunately, today though, I have made a £469 decision to find an alternative to the brand new Neotec I have just bought :-(
The helmet itself is the dogs b******s, however after wearing it for a 100 mile ride out today have discovered that my head shape is not quite right so the pressure points, particularly on my ears but also around my face have given me earache and a bit of a headache :-(
So it is with some reluctance I will have to sell it and find another helmet and quick before my European Tour......perhaps I am Shark or Arai shaped lol :pullface
So, if you are interested in an XS Shoei Neotec in Anthracite - worn once by a careful lady owner please let me know.
Good luck with your helmet decision :thumb

Before you sell your soul to buy another helmet why not try different size cheek pads, any good shoei dealer should have some for you to try. Got to be worth a try

Thanks for the advice - I cannot believe I didn't consider it before going into panic mode....lol :blast. I am checking out the sizing of replacement cheek pads as we speak and will pop into my dealer next week sometime for a try (he is pretty helpful so you never know he may swap out the next size cheek pads from another for me.......worth a try lol) or will purchase some replacements at about £50! Cheaper than a new helmet....... :augie

I might be wrong but hasn't the Neotech got a separate thin layer that can be peeled off to provide a better fit. Mines at work so can't check now
