Nero advice needed

I have a JVC digital video camera - uses those small tapes. I have about 6 of these tapes with various recordings on them but I can't upload onto my PC to burn them onto a disc...
I haven't got the needed sotware - I assume that I have got rid of the software at some point without realising it
Now, the lead to transfer the tape to PC is a 'firewire'(?) one which won't fit onto my other PC which has nero software on it. Is there a website where I can get a free download of the software I need? If I can get the software then I can use the firewire lead.
Is this written in an understandable way??

Windows movie maker supports firewire transfer from your camera, and it's free and legit.

It's available on the Microsoft d/load site.

Thanks for that - I think that the problem lies in the connection between camera and PC. When I jiggle the wire it works fine until I let go!
Now I need to burn the footage onto DVD - this is where I come unstuck...I don't seem to have the software - does movie maker do this?
