Can you download Mapscource onto either of these devices and plan routes on them whilst you are away on tour ?

And if so which would be the better device.

Phil,

I use a Samsung N210 Netbook and it runs Mapsource happily. I've had one for over a year and it has taken a whole lot of punishment, including 20k on the bike over summer and it hasn't been treated well. Long battery life, you can also get a charger for the bike if it matters.

5 hours on a battery charge, Wi-Fi with an excellent range, Bluetooth, decent size hard drive. Can't go wrong. If mine finally died tomorrow I'd go and buy another without hesitation.

Best of all they're very cheap, one example here for under £150, you can barely get a decent smartphone for that..

All the best,
Rob :thumb

Cookie is spot on-
Netbooks are fine but try driving with one.... clams are clams hence a better (IMHO) approach is this especially if you intend setting it up in a car.
(btw, the tablet works fine in the map sleeve of my tank bag too!)

Touch screen tablet with Windows 7 Ultimate (1.6 Ghz, 2 GB RAM, 50GB hard drive and a secondary built in 320GB hard drive so plenty of room in there.
3 USB2 slots, 1 HDMI, 2 SD card slots and a SIM card slot-

I'm running Mapsource, Basecamp and NRoute- and my Montana GPS send the gps signal to it-
The Montana maintains its navigation independence as does the tablet- So you can have have the two devices routing independently, using different settings and different mapping data at the same time. :thumb2

With the kind help from RAM Man, I found the right mix of RAM bits to set it all up in the 4x4.
Sumprat here recommend the bluetooth Rii touchpad which should do nicely on the arm rest.

Montana 4" screen = very good:D
Tablet 10" screen = Awesome doesn't quite convey the 'wow' and fab display!:thumb2
Check fleabay! Complete set up including mount & bits £172

Hints as follows::D

Name: Laptop (no seriously it is!)

Product

RAM Man can help you with various combinations of mounting- Mine is on the Tough Tray II
Still waiting for Rii wireless touch-pad so I can't say anything about it yet.
The only downside of this tablet I have found is the 2 hour battery life- not an issue for me as run off an inverter.
