I'm thinking about buying an Acer A150X - 1Gb Ram; 160Gb HDD and Windy XP Home.

What else should I look at for about £250 new?

Samsung NC10 - I bought my lad one from Dixons online for £280 and its superb - not sure if the offers still on or if you can get them cheaper yet. Battery life is around 8 hours and the quality of the build is great. Its quite heavy though compared to my Asus but teh Samsungs far better.

EDIT

I see Dixons don't list the NC10 but only the NC20 at £380 so too much. Cheapest NC10 is £307 from Amazon.

Eee PC works for me. I run a very cut down XP and manage nicely, alternatively use Linux and have more free ram.

I got an Acer Aspire One, Linux version, back in January, and it's a brilliant little machine. There were a few issues with the linux system, me not being used to it, but I got them sorted. It comes with Firefox and Open office, and does everything my laptop does, and more than my deskttop. You won't get one for the price I paid (£135.00), but they were running at around £220.00. Worth a look, maybe. There is also a version that runs XP available.

Good keyboard, great battery life, can be upgraded to 2GB RAM and decent size hard drive. See review here:

Thanks for all the input on this.

I went for the Acer One A150X this afternoon - 160Gb HDD and Windows XP. It'll do!
