Hi,

I recently had the opportunity to purchase a tidy 09 plate GS.
I've been a sports bike rider mainly but thought I would give it a try.
The one thing I don't like is the full REMUS exhaust.
It's too loud, pops and droans on every ride.
I appreciate that a lot of people love this but it's not for me.
The db killer is in the pipe so I'm guessing it's just the way it's meant to sound.
Unfortunately it didn't come with the original header or pipe.
Looking online it seems that the best way to address this issue is to fit the original header, with cat, back onto the bike.
I would still like to use the pipe rather than source an original one.
At the moment I'm struggling to find an original header for a 09 plate and the one I did find is in eastern Europe and expensive.
If I'm going to have to fork out a few quid I would like to know if I'm doing the right thing to resolve the issue.
Another issue is the fueling. It isn't as smooth as I would like.
I'm thinking a trip to a dyno/tune would help matters once I get the exhaust issue sorted.
I like the bike but would like it more if I could sort out these two issues.
Any advice or info would be greatly appreciated.

Get an AFXIED unit. You won't regret it. Quite a few of us on here have them and it transforms the bike. Gives similar results to a Hilltop remap but when you sell your bike you could sell it on here for £200 all day long.

Having the AF Xied units I couldn't agree more.....this plus the standard headers with the cat will quieten the bike plus give more punch, a smoother ride and much better fuelling.

I would change the headers first....see where you are on the fuelling and then go from there.

Thanks Gardham67 , notagser and oldnfat. I really appreciate the help and suggestions.

Put a wanted post in the FS&W section for a set of original headers and someone will come along with a set which have been sitting in the garage. You'll have to pay your £12 subs but it's teh best £12 you'll ever spend. You will also be able to sell your remus headers.

Just stick around and be patient. OEM headers do appear in FS&W and also on the well known auction site, and not all of them come from Lithuania.

The OEM exhaust is not especially quiet and really can't be baffled.

Are you using the Remus baffle?

I don't know which Remus you have but the Hexacone with no baffle on Remus header was quiet compared to the OEM silencer on same Remus header. The full OEM system was less noisy but in usability terms there was little difference. I personally think the Remus system sounded more mellow.

The pops and bangs are what these engines do especially when running weak as they do with a remap or AF-XiED.

I have an un-baffeld Akraprovic system. Its LOUD when wound up but around town it's fine. At 70mph, I get more noise off the front tyre than I get from the exhaust. That road noise alone is bad enough to need ear plugs so the the exhaust noise is really not an issue.

I'll let you know newman7096.
Good idea Sgt Bilco.
LOL you saw that listing as well Greenman14.
I was under the impression that a baffle was fitted already Bendy toy. I'm i mistaken?

Thanks again to everyone for the help and suggestions.

I'm still on the original end can. It's quite a bit louder with the decat headers, and the power delivery is noticeably sharper.

The Remus Hexacone system with no baffle was a lot less noisy than OEM silencer with decat headers. The Remus with baffles is probably less noisy than the OEM complete with catalyst.

I think you will find it is the cat the removes most the noise....hence why people used to run stubbies. Pretty much any end can with the cat will be quieter than a stock can with decat headers.

Removing the cat does make the bike sharper but mine definitely had more vibes as a result. Stock set up with the af xied units has delivered a quieter ride for commuting but retains the punch of decat with better fuelling and thus smoother ride.

Thanks BOBAD.
I'm expecting a header with cat tomorrow so hopefully i'll get that fitted over the weekend and try it out with the REMUS end can.
As oldnfat said in an earlier reply i'll start with the header and go from there.
Thanks again everyone.

Fitting the decat headers made my bike feel like it had been uncorked. Sorting out the fuelling did the same again. Fuel consumption is higher now, but I do tend to "use" the power. ;)

Just fitted the AF-Xied units this evening. Gonna run a couple of tanks through her over the next couple of days and see what all the fuss is about!!! ( I have full system with Remus Revolution can + K&N)

Had a good 250 mile blast today.....love the AF units....I will be interested to see what you think.

I have noticed already that it's much happier just pootling along at low revs (traffic etc etc) and it seems happier to be ragged up to higher reaches of the rev counter. It also seems happier on constant throttle at motorway speeds.

Your bike has a learning computer. Your bikes computer will adapt the fueling to correct for the BMW target O2 reading over 1-2 tanks of gas if you change an exhaust
