New 10W50 oil= better mpg?

Had the 24000m service done and as per dealers advice they used fully synthetic 10W50 oil. MPG is better now by almost 10%. I was getting around 54/55 mpg , done 600 miles since the service and I am getting 60/61.
No change in riding style.
I know that engines get loosen up with time and oil consummation virtually disappears, but this is my first 1200 engined bike where the mpg got better.

That'd be a bonus if mine did the same. My MPG has gradually improved over the last 2k. It's now got 5300 miles on and am getting around 50-53mpg.

bugger knows how to get 55 - 60mpg

I have had 57 before but that was a long steady run. 50 isnt so difficult and my norm with commuting is 47, I can get it down to 43 or into the 30s especially when its getting near service time.

Mine's a dohc which has 3500 on it. I think the last one wavered around 47 so hopefully this one will improve a bit. Normal fuel though - I'm not posh.

Looking at the posts not everyone is saying whether they are refering to a gs or gsa. Is'nt the gsa lower geared? its heaver and has a lot bigger frontal area and more drag with those big boxes. JJH

I've had my GS for 9 months now (05 GS 18K on the clock) and to begin with I was getting roughly 180 miles from a tank. Since it's 18K service I'm now getting over 220 miles from a tank with no other discernible changes. Cheapest of cheap fuel and it's also carrying around my fat ass so i'm quite impressed.

I think your idea of abuse may be somewhat kinder than others

I managed low 50's on my Bikesafe rideout which was on mainly slower B-Roads and keeping to all the limits.

Find "normal" riding provides about 43-46 mpg regardless of if I am solo or two-up, on back roads or motorways and a private road test showed 100mph two-up with luggage drops it down to about 35

Mine is a GSA and I got the 57 mpg 2 up and fully loaded with tail bag and jesse boxes so about as big and heavy as it gets. The GSA might have a bigger frontal area but it is probably also a smoother airflow because your legs and shoulders aren't in the airflow.
