New 10W50 oil= better mpg?

On my bike computer 50.1 to 50.4 MPG at a constant 80 MPH
2010 GSA, Premium Fuel, 8000 miles on the clock.

Also, I have always noticed a difference on my Bikes when I have first put in 10w-50 fully synthetic oil.

Used this in my bikes since 2003:-

Q8 MOTO SBK Racing 10W-50
Specifications API SL, JASO MA, ACEA A3

Did 300 miles on monday 2up. I don't ride hard or fast.
Most A and B roads. On the way home had about an hour on the motorway at 80-85 and computer read 47.8mpg which I thought was ok.
Don't think I've ever got around 50mpg.
I haven't noticed any improvement as bikes getting older (57 plate 15K miles) but I have fitted Givi Airflow screen a couple of months ago.
Screen keeps more air off me than standard but not sure if it helps or hinders with mpg.

My R12GS (2007 model year) is filled with Castrol 10W-50 oil, 98 octane petrol, and fitted with a Recyclizer module (the original Accelerator module). Maximum mileage on 1 tank is 250 :bounce1 Quite happy with that. Worst mileage on 1 tank is still 210, when playful, which makes me happy, too :D My Tripcomputer says I average 5,6l/100km, or 50mpg.

Since gear box ratios have changed throughout production (2010 gears shorter than 2008 gears shorter than 2004 gears) it's only normal that fuel consumption figures will vary. Same thing comparing GS to GSA, with a same set up a GS will consume less.

Going north from Ullapool and round the top and filled up at Wick again so no I wasnt doing 100mph but you wouldn't get ferry far trying that on those roads. I was making progress though on the great roads.
 
Mines a 2010, 1200 GS and we went to Scotlandshire last weekend. When cruising at honest 85-90mph up M74 2 up with full luggage i still got 49.5mpg.

Find "normal" riding provides about 43-46 mpg regardless of if I am solo or two-up, on back roads or motorways and a private road test showed 100mph two-up with luggage drops it down to about 35 :mad:

Yeah i can acheive low milage to by riding like twat ,but your mpg is piss poor for a gs ,yes get over 85mph and itll start drinking it ,but thatll only happen on motorways where constant speed is kept up :augie
My ol girl has coverd 20,000 now and is getting smoother + better :thumb2
 
I have no idea what mpg my bike gives with any given type of oil and frankly couldn't give a s**t!

If I cared about economy, I wouldn't buy a 1200 cc motorcycle........

Buy fully synth and ride a scooter if you're that tight!!

2010 GS 12000 MILES.during last service i took out k1600gt and exhausted myself. so i trundled back the 70 miles up the m6 and A roads at a steady 60 witha very light throttle. after 70 miles 65mpg showing on the zero'd av mpg ! definitely 10%+ better than before service - don't know if they changed to fully synthetic. also mpg does seem to improve with mileage and screen position, tyre pressure :)

My computer says 54 mpg, but it's not right, when you actually work it out on mileage and fuel used it's 49 mpg.

Taking it very steady I had 60 on trip, but it was 54 in real money,so fuel trips are about 10% out!

Mate, mid 40's on a GS is not riding like a twat. Most folk I know with 1200's average around mid to late 40's. Now, low 30's is:augie :D:D Maybe the newer ones are better.

My 56 plate 1200ADV has averaged around 44 for it's life. The only time I've got more is last year in the US leading 11 others across at a really steady speed. Would see high 50's on occasion and had over 500 miles range on the TC at one point:D
 
If they balance the throttles then i'm sure that might do something for the MPG rather than an oil change.

Where I live has got sod all to do with disposable income.

I did read the post from the start and here's another observation:

For a section on 1200cc motorcycles, there are a large amount of people obsessed with mpg figures:nenau
