Hi

Well I've ordered the new GSA from Park Lane and awaiting collcetion next week. :bounce1

Could I ask what practice has shown the best sat nav mount to be please. Its for a Zumo 550.

Searching the site it seem to be a BMW bar or a block of alloy attached to the screen brace. I did notice a company called Alder Enterprises doing said alloy block. I cant find any pictures of the BMW mount, so if anyone can assist

Many thanks

Bill

I have the BMW mount, a TT lockable cradle and the Alder enterprises solid mount with my 550. The BMW mount works fine with just the 550 cradle but there is not enough room if I use the TT cradle as well - it fouls the screen. The benefit of the BMW mount I have is that it has a lever which allows you to rotate the position on the upper brace. With the Alder mount it is bolted onto the brace so to adjust it you have to undo the screws. Not a problem for me as I don't adjust the screen position very often but if you do it will be an irritant.

I use the BMW mount fitted on the rail with the BMW Navigator sat nav.

I was really suprised how good the BMW bracket is.....I did 5 weeks rattling around some of the worst roads I've been on in the Ukraine shortly after getting the GSA. And despite expecting the sat nav to make a leap for freedom at times with the vibration it experienced it was still as solid as a rock when I got back.

Is that a Wunder'lick' sat nav dog accessory?......

......I'll get my coat! :augie

Use whats in the box and mount it on the left side close to the left hand mirror. That way you can use its buttons very easily and does not obscure the dials nor your vision

I use the BMW mount as it's simple, neat and looks like it should do i.e. a genuine factory part :thumb2

Most of the aluminum aftermarket GPS mounts look like they've been styled by Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles and are unneccessarily expensive and complicated IMHO :hide

I am using this mount here.
The finish matches the bars of the GSA and it looks very very OEM.

That does look very nice...very sturdy, strong, and professional.....but €109!!! :eek

The BMW one is £35ish if I remember correctly?

Could do same either on screen rail support or handlebars with

RAM single u-bolt bracket RAM-B-231Z (£15 ?)

RAM double u-bolt bracket, RAM-B-235 (£23 ?)

Ball on yoke block ? RAM-B-367

Garmin nüvi 550 mount on GS/GSA

Tried other mounts, also the GSA support bar mount but the vibrations were bad so now using the RAM-Mount with the Garmin (not the RAM version) cradle for the nuvi 550 and loving it!
I couldn't think of a better, more economical and more flexible mount and key is that there are no vibrations when mounting it that way.
Used a rubber cable insulation (removed wire) and pushed the metal clamp through it:

Also painted the nuts black matte so there are no reflections when looking at the instrument cluster:

No vibration and GPS can be adjusted so it won't cover anything. I like it.

HTML:
mount it on the left side close to the left hand mirror

I tried that with the GS and couldn't get on with it. I think the BMW mount is the way to go. I like the Migsel mount but not the price, plus as mentioned in second post, if you adjust the screen, the mount will need adjusting to.

Many thanks for the replies

If doing any off-roading avoid any method that places any mass on the top fairing bracket of a GSA. I'm known of four that have failed where the lower bar is cut-out near the clocks.

How about SW-Motech GPS mount:http://shop.sw-motech.com/cgi-bin/cosmoshop/lshop.cgi?action=showdetail&wkid=130579036027164&ls=en&nc=1305790443-27417&rubnum=products.1252674712.gps-halter_cockpit_nonshock&artnum=GPS.07.637.10000/B&id=16&gesamt_zeilen=Tshowrub--products.1252674712.gps-halter_cockpit_nonshock&typid=36129586

BMW bar ordered from NOG. If I'm not happy with that may go for the Motech mount.

Ta for all the help
