I went to look at and try on the 2015 BMW Street Guard outfit yesterday, really lovely gear!

The only reason that I didn't make a purchase was that a guy in the shop said that some of these new SG's have been known to leak.

So thought that I'd ask the question to the Tosser's Oracle to get some feedback, I know that technically this is a clothing dept question but I'm not sure how many tossers enter that area, and I wanted some quick feedback as I want to make my decision early this next week for two sets of gear.

So, have you got a new 2014/2015 Street Guard and has it leaked?

Oh.. and how do you rate it?

Ta :thumb2

Street Guard

I returned on Tuesday from a week on the west coast of France, it peed down from the moment we got off the ferry for 5 days solid, I have SG 2 and bought off this site 2 years ago, I have ridden in all weathers & 20,000 miles has never let me down, a friend has SG 3 also bone dry, two others in the party wore Dainese and were sodden, so :thumb for Streetguard.

I've a new SG jacket. Admittedly I've only done a thousand miles or so in it but a fair few of those were in the rain. No leaks in mine as yet and I'm very happy with it.

Hi Bobsnew,

That sounds really good news, however it is the latest SG4 kit that I intend getting and the shell is a C-change material. Are the SG2 and SG3 suits that you mentioned made of a similar material. It was a cracking piece of kit to wear in the shop, very comfortable.

When you arrive at your hotel room and the suit is wet through, does it dry out reasonably quick. My Heine Gericke is a waterproof gortex suit but the outer shell takes all night to dry out once its wet even though the inside is dry.

Cheers.

Hi, Yes, it is similar material, I know they altered the zip design on the SG 3 from double to single zip, my mate bought his SG 3 from BMW dealership a few weeks ago at less than half price. They do tend to hold the water but dry quite quickly, good Armour as well.

I have the SG4 and have done about 2500 miles in it (other jackets too)

Last Sept I was returning to Zeebrugge & from Metz to Bruxelles and encontered some very heavy rain for 40 mins - so much so that the m/way was slowed to a max of 40mph it was that bad

The SG4 kept me 100% dry

However I saw the approaching rain, so stopped in an 'aire' to fully do up the collar and cuffs, before entering the storm

If the suit leaks, the complaining user may not have done this, closed the vents/collar/cuffs properly

I think it's a fantastic bit of kit and I have the all black long version

Cheers Johnny, I'm presuming that included wearing the gortex hood that is packed away inside the collar that can be un-rolled and worn under your helmet?

The feedback is very promising so far, does your SG4 vent well in hot weather, and how long does it take to dry out in your hotel room?

I was looking at the shorter grey version.

I didn't bother with the hood thing, just the zip-off storm collar

It vents great in hot weather, but will never be as good as something like a Rallye suit

Drying out, it doesn't get wet as the water runs off instantly and is dried by the wind as you ride - that's the beauty of a bonded garment

I looked at Rukka and Klim, but chose the SG4 as I liked the features, the zip out fleece bodywarmer jacket, that can be worn out on a night, plus the it zips to all my other BMW trousers, so I can wear my leather Atlantis leather trousers or Rallye trousers if I want

I also looked at the Rukka gear as it was on a very special deal this weekend at Pidcocks Triumph, meticulously made beautiful kit, and I really wanted to love it, but I found it too uncomfortable compared to the SG4. Having said there are plenty of guys who find it very comfortable but sadly I didn't.

Also agree the Zip out fleece is a nice feature and means one less garment to pack on the bike.

I and quite a few of my mates wear Halvarssons - well worth a look.

I was torn between the SG4 and a Rukka and I went with the Rukka. I wasn't convinced by the zip in the sg4 jacket and it didn't seem to "fit" me well, whereas the Armas was much more like my Hein Gericke gear. I also prefer the superfabric - and can attest to its effectiveness having slid down an icy road that it really works on impact points. I was also slightly put off by reports of SG leaking seams and the 2yr warranty. In fact my jacket had a slight issue with the Gore Lockout closure being a bit tough to close. The dealer arranged for a replacement to be sent out the next day (whose closure was perfect) and the distributor told me if I was happy with the replacement to keep it. I intend to keep it long-term so the 6yr warranty gives me a bit more peace of mind.

Tannerman, Do you know if the Halvarssons do a pro-shell?

Matty, Which Rukka did you get and was it stiff when you first got it and has it become comfortable, as I said earlier, I wanted to love the Rukka but this guy was trying to get me into an Arma S and I found it quite uncomfortable compared to the SG4 which slipped on like a favorite old glove and immediately felt great.

It's true that different suits fit different people better. Mine is an Armas suit and it is a bit stiff in the elbows and a close fit in the trousers but it does loosen up. Like the all round boots the BMW gear is very comfortable but I'm not convinced how well it'll perform long-term. The Rukka gear really does feel top quality - just as well as it is very pricey! Not a summer jacket though - very little venting.

My BMW SG1 XCR Goretex trews are still look like new and watertight after 10 years use, plus fit perfectly to my SG4 jacket

My Streetguard 4 suit is only 8 months old and trousers leak! The stitching on the waist band adjusters have come undone. Have been waiting for 2 months for replacement ones and have been told that new ones will not be ready for another 10-15 weeks ImageUploadedByTapatalk1431379248.864888.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1431379266.801822.jpg looking at returning hole suit and getting rukkia

Blimey. Not good! Another point that swayed me to the Rukka was that every joint seam is nicely double-stitched whereas most other gear has single stitching.

I found the SG3 Heavy, stiff and cumbersome, it sat in my cupboard for 2 years...then i sold it on here still brand new, i went back to the dealers last month and the SG4 is a much more flexible material, not as stiff as the SG3 at all, i tried on a 52, (50 was too small), but still thought it was a bit cumbersome - perhaps it's my shape, but i tried on the Rallye 3 jacket a size smaller (50) and didn't bother giving the SG4 a second look, the Rallye was so comfortable, flexible, vents on the arms, chest and side, also the sleeves detach in a jiffy so you can pop them off at the race track, unlike the SG it gets wet but the inner Gortex keeps the water out, a much better fit for me than the SG.

I have a brand new (never worn, still in the boxes with all tags) 2015 SG4 all black professional long suit, for sale. This was an extra suit that Vines BMW gave to me as part of a deal. I already have another textile suit that I wear on a regular basis, so I'm happy to move the SG4 on at a good saving against new for the benefit of the new owner. £700 for the whole suit. Size 54, perfect for a heavier 5'11".

BMW are replacing the hole suit due to leaking so if you have size 58 long jacket and size 28 trousers get them checked out as there seems to be an issue as I have been waiting for 3 months for new trousers!!!!!!
