Finally I'm looking at getting a 450 I'm trading in my 08 adventure. I have been over the last 10 months setting up my G650x challenge and after changing the air shock for an Ohlins the bike has been a lot of fun to ride and will handle the adventure rides well. I don't need the adventure as I'm not riding the tours any more. I can use the 650 around town and the adventure rides. I'm now looking at a 450 for more tight technical rides as the 650 is still to heavy at 156 kg for this kind of riding.

I'm not sure weather to purchase a 2009 or 2010 450. There are some good deals on the 09 bikes. The 09 bike comes with the following at no extra cost.
BMW team racing sticker kit, race muffler, hand guards, bash guard as well a BMW neck brace.

I'll probably only ride the 450 50 hours in a year. I may not need the 70 hour complete service as I will not be racing the bike.

I'd say the 450 and the 650 are a bit too close. Personally, I run the 650 as my "toy" bike. If you really do need a small toy bike to complement the 650, wouldn't a 250 2-stroke be more appropriate? Have a good root around this forum for threads on 450 reliability - make your own mind up!

The 450 is a light bike and comes with a 2 Year warranty I don't see a problem. It's like saying the 800gs is close to the 650 but it's not it's a big over weight adventure bike that is front heavy. Bikes are built by man so things are never 100% just like my 1200 GSA it has had problems and BMW have fixed the problems and I get a good trade price.
I'm yet to meet any person who has a perfect product.

Where have you seen that deal on a new 09 bike????

There is some huge package available in UK dealers at present. Call Possu at North Oxford Garage for details. He mentioned it to me, but I can't remember the full details.

Timpo.

Stickers/ Moto Wheels/ Full Akra and a comprehensive spares package...........all worth about £1500+

BMW UK must have quite a few leftover in boxes:augie:blast:blast:blast

The 450 is updated every year due to being a racing bike.
I may trade the 450 every year on a new end of season model or every second year. I'll differently trade before the warranty expires. There is a cost to owning this bike or any bike and if the change over is within my budget then why not change. It may cost 110 pounds a month or even less for two years and then trade it in on an end of season model. There is no point in having a new season racing bike as I'm not going to race the 450 and even if I did I would not have the skills to notice the changes.

Just back from my ride on the 450.

I totally enjoyed the day. The bike went great and will order one tomorrow.

The bike I was riding was German BMW rider Andreas Lettenbichler who set the bike up and rode the Red Bull City Scramble in Auckland NZ

My new 450 is getting close to it's first ride. The BMW tech has changed the front and rear sprocket. We are waiting for other parts to arrive today or Monday. First ride will be Sunday next week.

The bike is slowly coming together. Most of the parts have arrived and have fitted. I still have the new handle bars to be fitted and suspension to be set up. The BMW aluminium sump guard has a full rubber padding between the engine and guard and is really well made.
