Hi All,
:type I just wanted to let you know that my new adventure motorcycle travel book ‘Tortillas to Totems’ is being launched at the iconic Ace Cafe London on Saturday September the 18th. You are invited. Hope you can make it. We've a fun afternoon lined up.

‘Tortillas to Totems’ takes you across the magnificent landscapes of Mexico, the USA and Canada. Lands where it is just too easy to get sidetracked by the unexpected.

This is my fourth adventure motorcycle travel book. My first ‘Into Africa’ takes you from Cairo down to Cape Town. The tale is packed with wonderful happenings and far too many disasters, but that is travel on two wheels across the stunning continent that is Africa.

My second book, ‘Under Asian Skies’ kicks off in Australia and then takes you through the exotic lands of SE Asia, across Asia proper, through the Middle East and on through Eastern Europe. You’ll find me close to death a couple of times, involved with smugglers, getting a buzz from the madness that is traffic in India and much more.

My last book, ‘Distant Suns’ takes you through Southern Africa and then on up through the awesome landscapes of South and Central America. These really are lands where every day is an adventure, and this time I am riding with Birgit, who you’ll have met first in ‘Under Asian Skies’. You’ll find that Birgit is one of the pluckiest girls on two wheels!

‘Tortillas to Totems’ starts off in Mexico, which surely is one of the most awesome countries in the world. It has a fascinating and incredibly diverse history, stunning roads to ride and cops who are complete gits! The land is an exciting challenge to ride.

We then head on up into the USA, which I really wasn’t sure I wanted to visit. By this time I’d been on the road for nearly 7 years, and most of that time had been in second and third world countries. The though of heading up into the big, bold and brash USA was daunting. A reverse culture shock, or was it?

Canada held all the delights I’d imagined and much more. This really is a land to explore on two wheels. But the country also gave us a major disappointment. Never fear though, that disappointment was just the start of a whole new adventure.

The launch on Sept the 18th will kick off around midday. There will be live rock music, celebrities, a huge raffle for Motorcycle Outreach, adventure travel companies, dune buggies (yes you read that right!) and of course Books! We’d love to see you there. If you’ve never been to the Ace Cafe before, then perhaps use us as a good excuse. Make sure you arrive in time for one of the Ace Cafes world famous breakfasts! Leave space for it!!!

There’s more info on the books on the Adventure Travel Books website http://www.sam-manicom.com Where ‘Every day is an Adventure!’:thumb

Aye up Sam ... I'll be having a copy in due course, wouldn't want to miss the latest in the line up :thumb

Just picked up 'into africa' at the Hograost this weekend, after buying Distant Suns from you at the Ace a few months ago, which should keep me company on my train journey today. I'll look forward to the next instalment soon.

Travel safe,

J.

Hi J,
Good to hear from you. Glad you made it to the Hog Raost. I was hoping to be there again this year too - really enjoyed it last year. Hopefully I'll make it next year :clap

Chuffed you snagged a copy of Into Africa - probably from Les Madge on TravelDri? I hope you enjoy it. Twas a mad and amazing year which I was lucky to ride out alive from. Stunning continent to ride a bike through.

Going to join us at the launch? It'd be great to see you.

Hope you have a great summer in the mean time.

Cheers, :beerjug:
Sam

Hi Sam, I've just ordered a copy of Under Asian Skies from your site:thumb

I meant to buy a copy from Les at the Hogroast...then forgot:blast

Hi Tim,
Brilliant - many thanks - its through and will be out in the post to you today. I'll pop in a fridge magnet as a sort of compensation for missing out on getting it from Les.
Hope you enjoy the read.
All the best,
Sam

Hi Sam,

Just a quickie to say Hi and thanks for the chat at the NEC on your launch of Into Africa a few years ago now, I think that is partly responsible for me being 2 years into a RTW trip. At the moment I'm taking time out after having to send my poor old Bullet back to the UK and then after I've finished this China/Vietnam and a few more countries in between stage I should be picking up my new'ish 1150 GSA back in Bangkok.

Good luck with the new book, I'll have to get the latest 2 books sent out to me with the bike.

Great, can't wait for the fridge magnet:D

I have itchy feet again, a feeling I'm sure you'll know only too well:blast

Hi John,
I'm delighted to hear that I might have been a bit of a corrupting influence :thumb And that you are out on the road. Excellent. I hope the trip is going really well.
Birgs and I were in Vietnam for a while and loved it. Really friendly people eh, and great roads, and superb food. Hope you are having a ball there.
Good luck with getting the new GS in Bangkok. Should run smoothly. I hear its still one of the best places in SE Asia to get a bike shipped in.
Thanks for the best wishes for 'Tortillas to Totems' - much appreciated.
As for the last two books - get a friend to order 'Under Asian Skies' from me, putting your name in the comments box and I'll include a copy of 'Distant Suns' for free - every little helps when you are on a travel budget eh.
All the best and happy travels,
Cheers,
Sam

You are very welcome Tim, and itchy feet? Oh yes do I know how that feels - even more while I am quarantined! Really looking forward to being on the move again. The launch is going to be my first day of freedom :clap Can't wait !
Hope you get to scratch your itch too soon.
Cheers,
Sam

Hi Sam, you were missed at the HU meeting this year! Mainly as my default action manning the gate on not knowing an answer was to say "ask Sam".... :blast

Will be down at the Ace for the book launch - I've never been and this seems a good excuse to go and see the place.

Richard

Hi Sam,

My my, you're really knocking the books out :)

I sincerely hope the new one does well.

Best regards and take care

Dave

Hi Richard,
Nice of you to say - cheers. T'was a real shame not to be able to make it to HU this year - especially as it sounds like it went off so well. You know, we had 81 volunteers this year - magnificent eh. You guys did a fantastic job. Whenever anyone says to me that the Meet was good, I think to myself, 'that's because the volunteers make everything run so smoothly and they are the ones who help to make such a great atmosphere!' It's a big chunk of what a travel meet is all about in the end eh - helping each other I mean.

I'm looking forward to next year already:)

Brilliant news that you are coming down to the Ace Cafe of the launch of 'Tortillas to Totems' - I'm really looking forward to the day. Glad you are using the event as an excuse to get to the Ace Cafe. It's a magic place - atmosphere, great staff, excellent food and loads of history.

Looking forward to seeing you there.
Cheers,
Sam

Hi Dave,
Oh yes, the writing lark is brilliant fun. :type Guess if you love what you are doing then that comes across - hope so anyway. Mexico, The USA and Canada were far more interesting than I thought they were going to be. Far too many opportunities to get sidetracked! You'll laugh when you read how many times that happened.

But hey that's a big part of the freedom being on a bike gives you isn't it - the chance to take advantage of opportunity I mean.

Thanks for the best wishes for 'Tortillas to Totems' - much appreciated.:thumb

Catch you out 'there' sometime.
Cheers,
Sam

Tortillas to Totems

Thanks Sam, will get in touch with my mate when you've got the pricing up of your latest book on the web site. Yep, hopefully the bike should be as easy to import as it was to export the old beast.

Cheers,

John

Hey Bryn,
Good to hear from you! About time too? Yeah well, um, been out and about, and a tad 'distracted' since 'Distant Suns'. :augie

But I'm almost up and running again now!:thumb The launch of 'Tortillas to Totems' is going to be my first day of freedom - really looking forward to it.

Hope alls well with you.
Cheers,
Sam
