New Adventure

Just been and got myself a new Adventure today, hopefully pick it up back end of next week. Traded in my 800gs, got a fair price for it but was devastated when he pointed out my buckled front wheel. They must be made of flour as its only seen tarmac and a couple of dusty roads. Its only got 1600mile on it!! I would hate to think if it was going on an adventure trip. Hopefully the KTM will be put together a bit better.

Yeah, the GS 800 only beats the Big KTM on fuel consumption. I found my 800 GS very vibey and showing signs of rust after only 6 months summer/ garaged use.?? Not a thing the KTM has after 23 month use.?

Much as i like Ktm's, i have looked at a few adventures lately and the spokes are in a shit state-rusty,corroded.This must be a weak area.
Saying that the 950adv i had the spokes were mint.

Could it just be 990adv? I would'nt have thought so.

990 adv spokes are shite,really the only letdown for me,so wheels went to Hagon for some polished SS with anodised nipples...

£290 with anodised orange nipples.i know but hey they look sweet,and make the bike look fantastic now,well worth the wonga.Hagon did them but i think probably you could get them done for less elsewhere,if you go on the ktm forum.under Adventure a guys posted about SS spokes and iv posted a picture of the rear wheel...

Your having a laugh aren't you? The standard Behr rims are way too soft for serious off-road use. You need a good set of Excel rims in narrow sizes is you really want to use these offroad

This is the result of serious off-road use in Kazakhstan and Mongolia....and is after the first, even deeper dink (so deep you could see the inner tube) was taken out with a lump hammer

Dude you need to excercise some vehicle sympathy,and hey when im cruising up and down the high street dropping in and out of those massive potholes,my wheels are ok.... Try to keep the front constantly in the air,oh and by the way this will save on tyre wear.Those spokes are a disgrace,get down the shops and get yourself some solvo autosol,ASAP.....carry on

Pick it up Thursday, Akro's fitted, and KTM luggage. Got a high front mudguard kit to fit then will farkle it over the next couple of months. Can't wait!!

Yes it was a TKC80. To be fair the size and frequency of the potholes in both Kazakhstan and Mongolia meant it was almost impossible to avoid damage to the rim.

The only 2 bikes that didn't suffer rim damage were the F800GS and a big Honda single; mind you almost all the bikes were on TKC80s so I think your theory is still valid.

I actually had an MT21 with me as a spare; duh!

I recently bought a 2007 990 Adv after a F800GS. I appreciated the 800 so much I had two with a K1300S in-between. The KTM is a very different beast. After 2000 miles I love the KTM - a very different experience requiring a lot more attention to riding that big V-twin engine and the better for it. As for screens, I have a touring screen and am thinking of buying a standard screen - see the UK KTM forum thread for my reply

Good switch fella, I came from a 800 GS and haven't looked back. Other than my spokes being a bit Fluffy I have had no dramas. They do use more gas, however if that was my main concern I'd buy a scooter. Bikers Jersey are great for price and service, check them out on the ktm forum. Health to ride!
