Folks,

Couldn't see this being previously posted........so here goes.

Looks like Altberg have a new boot out. Just noticed this on this website.

http://www.altberg.co.uk/Web/motorcycle_Roadrunner.jsp

•Sizes 6 - 13½ available, medium fitting, ex-stock
•New design - boot opens both sides for easier foot entry
•New design - boot leg width adjustment for different size calves
•New design - more durable rubber gear change reinforcement
•New design - more flexible on back of leg for easier ankle movement, gear change/braking

Bootmakers Roadrunner Design Notes
It has been almost six years since I had designed a new motorcycle boot - so in 2009 I started to develop a new prototype. There were three areas which I wanted to improve...
Foot Entry I wanted to make it possible for a wider range of foot types to get the boot on and off more easily but still keep the boot secure on the foot once it was on.
Leg adjustment I wanted an adjustable leg that could be more easily adapted to a wider range of calf sizes.
Durability of the gear change patch We had always used leather but I decided to invest in moulds to make our own rubber gear change reinforcement.
I had my first prototype ready within six months but it took me a further eighteen months before I was happy enough to go into production. I've been wearing my first prototype Roadrunners on my bike (BMW R100R Mystic) since Feb 2010 and I think it achieves what I set out to do.

Cheers,
Kev

Hmmm....looks like that nice Mr Sheehan has made himself a bit of a Daytona clone. Personally, I'd have preferred some armour in the right places and some kind of bracing to prevent inversion and eversion injuries to the ankle but I guess he knows his market.

Lack of armour and bracing made me switch from Daytona to Sidi, shame Altberg can't incorporate more protection in their otherwise excellent products.

Nice for Altbergs but a bit wee for me, must dig out my old 1990s pair I bought in Richmond.

I was fancying a pair of their Continental tourers and had a run up to the factory a couple of months ago. The chap there, no idea of his name, but a really dry, funny bloke, showed me his latest creation and I left wearing a pair of Roadrunners.

3000ish miles later and I'm very happy with them, very, very comfortable after 3 years in Alpinestars Tech3s and totally waterproof. They'll probably turn out to be a bit warm for summer jaunts to sunnier climes. Not as sweaty as the motocross boots though!! :D:D

Do take the point about lack of armour, but it's horses for courses. They'll do for me, especially if they're as durable as Altbergs are reputed to be

The new boot looks very nice, but I can't seem to wear out the Altbergs I have now. The only part showing any signs of real wear is the gear change leather section (the new rubber might do better) and the soles are somewhat chamfered where they've touched down on spirited rides.

I know they lack ultimate protection, but they are lovely to wear. :)

Don't bother

Ordered a pair in October 2011 & was told to call in six weeks to allow time for manufacture. Called in early December to be told the boots will not be available until February 2012. I had to ask for the £50 deposit back. They weren't even able to explain why the boots hadn't been made. Poor customer service. Avoid.

Frankly Fred sounds like Sour grapes to me

Altbergs have a VERY Good Rep out there and If I get a few shekels together (one of these days) I will be buying a pair of boots from them!

At least they gave you back your deposit So what's your problem They haven't got them delivered when they should have been Oooops it's called the real world!

Altbergs customer service is usually absolutely spot on, my Clubmans are now at least 12 years old and have been used both on and off road and will not wear out.

We get the Field and Fell boots issued at work and they always last 2 to 3 years (being used outdoors for at least 200 days a year), what buggers them is when they get wet and then you get straight into a vehicle and drive, the heater dries out the leather and it will eventually crack (never happens on the bike boots).

The only problem can be they make boots in production runs and if you miss one and they have none in stock it can take 6 to 10 weeks to get a pair made.

I also have a pair of Daytonas and yes they may have more protection but they are no more weather proof than the Altbergs and definitley NOT as comfortable and the Daytonas were a damned sight more expensive.

Altberg, as a business, are a little bit 'Olde Worlde' but their products are first class. I have had to give them a nudge re an order for walking boots, but everything was chilled and no big deal...;)

They measure your feet, make the boots, make sure they fit you, and then fix 'em, if you fook 'em....:rob

A nice little ride up the road from where I live....Why wear anything else ?....:clap

Never worked out

Why they don,t put some decent protection in them

Maybe they're not that kind of boot maybe these are a ride the bike keep your feet warm and dry type of boot Which is good with me!

go Slower and pay attention and Protection not required It's a bit Like steppers on his wee runs He just has his sandles and shorts on!

EDIT FUGG ME at that price they outta ride the bike on their own!

Ordered my Roadrunners in October, said they would be ready for December2011. Now they are to be made at the end of january after saying they are going to make alterations to there current design from customer feed back!
