buy a 1150 gsa, get a later one with low miles (prob pay about 6 ish grand) do your tour, come back sell it for about what you paid. buy another.

buy a 1200gs, get one with low miles, take your chance, come back and buy the 1150gsa you should have bought

or
buy a 1200gsa, pay upwards of 10 grand, ride it until it it rides no more.

Two up with luggage? mmm My first reaction would be for your Missus to learn to ride and take her own 'bike. Much more carrying capacity that way.

Any bike will, you don't need an Intergalactic Blaster...

Take your time ... smell the flowers, meet the people, for it is they that you will remember long after your trip is over

Why dont you just get the gsa without any 'pack' and spend the 1400 quid you've saved on some actually useful kit? when was the last time you were riding along and thought oh i must adjust my suspension immediately. Plus it's just something extra to go wrong on this big trip. £1400 will buy some decent luggage and leave plenty of cash for petrol for a long long way. I'm not being funny but if you do intend on doing a long trip it appears to me you need to rethink your priorities with simplicity probably being best.

Admittedly I often have the pleasure of Beth's company as well as riding solo, but I would never go back to twirling knobs to up the preload. Its adjustable 'on the move' for terrain as well - useful in North Yorks.

When you sell on and don't have the bells and whistles you may struggle a bit 'cos most peeps ( IMHO ) are gonna be looking for them on a 2nd hander.

Not sure how reliable it is as mines just under 2yrs old and about 18,000 clicks, but not heard any horror stories.
( Even if it stopped adjusting you'd still have suspension ).

The're all great bikes and if you find a good one it will do what ever you want it to do,within reason.

ESA,in my opinion one of the best accessories ever purchased especially if you go from, solo-two up-loaded-unloaded,frequently.

Which ever one you buy,one upgrade which is a must are the lights,standard lights make travelling after dark "difficult" to say the least.
