I've been given a new keyboard by my daughter and it works fine apart from the matter of typing the character @ which means that I can't write my email address. This @ character appears along with the € symbol on the 2 key, but when I use the shift key I get the inverted commas " symbol, ie neither the @ or €. As far as I know all the other shift key operations work as expected.

Please can somebody tell me how to type this elusive bastard @

PS, I'm using this on an ordinary PC running windows, I assume my daughter hasn't had any bother with it as she's been using it while working from home for the last few days.

Don't know about Apple but, on a PC, if @ and " are arse about face, it mains the keyboard is set up as a US one.

Use the " key (shift ')
Yep, you're right, that works. Is there another (better?) way? Has it been set up correctly, perhaps?

And thank you so much, I'm trying to check in to flight I've booked, book a hotel and also register a new printer all of which need my email address. Very much appreciated, thanks again. :beerjug:

Ah, I just missed seeing your reply as I was replying to Mike O; it may well be a set up issue. Any suggestion as to how to sort it please? :)

Try changing your preferences, click the little apple icon (top left of the screen) then go -- system preferences -- language & keyboard preferences -- click on the + sign and select British.

I'm not on a Mac, it's just an Apple keyboard being used with a PC so there's no apple icon on the screen, but I'm on Windows Help & Support > keyboard language > To change your display language > Keyboards and Languages where it seems that "English, UK" is already selected (rather than English, USA).

Am I doing it right?

That's the limit of my knowledge I'm afraid!

If you're on a PC, using a Mac keyboard, you'll just have to remember that the @ and " characters have swapped places.

You might find you have a few more casualties. Apple keyboards work great on a Mac!

Fair enough, I'll have to learn to live with it then, thank you all.

Flight now checked in, hotel booked and printer/scanner registered. :thumb2
