All installed and i have been testing out in various conditions for the last week. The whole set up works perfectly and faultlessly! I must admit after 'plugging in' for the last 10 years, it does feel a little odd to just hop and go.
The bluetooth module plugs in straight to the 7 pin headset lead coming out of the autocom unit and can be powered from the autocom unit or separately dependant upon the model you have.
It paired with my Xlite bluetooth enabled helmet without problem.
i did have an issue with sound quality initially and made the effort to see the guys at Starcom/Autocom to get to the bottom of it. I had mounted the bluetooth unit under the seat behind the tank and was losing signal because of its location. We tested other bluetooth receivers and the seemed to be clearer, so it could be that the Xlite unit is fairly low powered (the bluetooth module that connects to my phone is also situated under the tank edge and works perfectly). With the helmet module moved under the lip of the dash (line of sight to my helmet) it works perfectly!
I was worried about noise as part of the way Autocom units work so well is their microphone. I have tested phone and radio transmission and it is very clear indeed! people on the phone dont know i am on the bike at all. The only time anything was noticed was this Tuesday when i as out in the very strong winds and it was noted that they could hear a little wind noise. Adjusted mic sensitivity on the Autocom unit and soted.
The only gripe i have is clarity of the speakers in the helmet. I am used to using ear monitors and find helmet speakers very tinny. I will get an in line jack plummed into the helmet so that i can plug in my monitors again. By the way the X- lite X551 is a very quiet helmet! Far moreso than my Arai!
