Just fitted a new battery to my 1150GS, but when fitting I had to disconnect the 'overflow' tube form the old battery.

The new battery doesn't have a fitting for the tube.

Is that because the old battery was a wet one and the new battery a gel one and therefore doesn't need the overflow?

A lot of people confuse sealed for life batteries with gel-type.

Both have no need for the usual breather pipe.

Dunno the difference - just went to Vines BMW in Guildford and asked for a replacement battery for a 1150GS.

Probably a sealed for life then.

It doesn't need a breather.

Battery

That wil be a gel type then official BMW dealers would have sold you a BMW battery so no breather required.

AFAIK it will be a Glass Mat(AGM) battery which as Mike says is sealed for life

make sure you get the right charger for it, they can be different

amount of batterys my garage goes through cos of this is silly though

Stop confusing the man -it's a genuine BMW battery, uses the same charger as any other battery.

Not my experience. My accumate wouldnt charge the battery from a low state. Bought the BMW charger and sorted.

If you talking 1200's you will need to connect the charger to the battery direct not via the socket as per 1150's.
