Hello,

Having been stranded 2 miles from home with a dead battery and no mobile to call for help, I think it's about time I got a new battery.

I'm off up into the Arctic in April, so I need something heavy-duty that will cope with the temparature and won't let me down. The current seems to be leaking fluids from the plugs - which can't be good! Which would be the best to get, where would I get if from, and how much (roughly) would it cost?

Thanks very much,
Charlie

Charlie,
this should give you plenty to chew over. I think the Hawker SBS8 is probably the best for your requirements but you'll be looking to pay upwards of £70 plus you'll need to get Touratechs' adapter as well (about £11 IIRC). I have an Oddessey battery in mine which is much the same as the SBS8 but it was a little bit cheaper and doesn't have quite as much cold cranking power as the SBS8 so I'm told.
I can't comment on the Westco batteries, I didn't fancy trying to make one fit as they're a bit bigger than the standard battery.

There's so much info! Thank you - I'll look into getting the Hawker (best to be safe I think). Charlie

Odyssey

FItted an Odyssey battery got from Motorworks.
Lower total amperage ( so if you leave your lights on it they will stay on less that the standard Yasa 12Amp battery) but huge more cold starting amps whiuch is where you want it
Tight fit but not as tall as standard.
Another benefit....no leakage in case of tip-over and that gets my vote alone:D
Only thing I don't like on it are those silly small screw battery terminals- but too small to worry about

Bert,
Which Odyssey battery did you go for? The PC310?
Cheers
