I was pretty sure the reason I was getting no reading from the rear sensor was an expired battery. I was going to wait until I needed a new tyre but a nice rainy afternoon came and I decided I would give it a go.
So, wheel off, tyre off, sensor off, battery dug out (reads 0.9v so was kapput), new battery soldered in, repacked with gasket compound and left for a day to cure. Next day, refitted sensor, refitted tyre and refitted wheel. Took the bike out tonight and all working swell - job done for a cost of a couple of quid and some effort. The sensors were the second set fitted to the bike as the originals were replaced under warranty so these are 4 1/2 years old and had about 24K on them.
