been looking for YTZ 14S to replace my YTZ12S on my HP2 E and got a bit confused with prices
there is one supplier on ebay for around £65 but then again another one for £145
haven't even tried looking for a local supplier..

Thanks guy's, I've bought one through Schtum's link to a Honda dealer £62.
I've also found out that Yuasa now do a TTZ 12 & 14s to lower the cost and Honda do an OE as this fits loads of Honda models.

Good morning Gentlemen, I have inserted Ballistic Batteries in my HP2's They weigh just over 1 kilo, last for 10 years have triple the power for the size and only loose 10% charge per year - so you never have a flat battery. Yes it costs more but for the weight saving alone its well worth it.
I have used the 16cell units but i understand the 12cell would be fine & they are lighter & cheaper.

They both have them. This is on an Island near Tofo in Mozambique only accessible at low tide. What a place!
About US190 for the 12 cell (recemmended over 1000cc), about US160 for the 8 cell (recomended under 1000cc)

The batteries are quite spectacular, I have a husaberg TE300 2-stroke which i use up in the mountains around Cape Town, from new the battery never had enough oomph to swing the starter motor the bike lived on the trickle charger permanently, since installing the 8 cell ballistic the bike starts every-time i dropped 3 kilos on the weight and no trickle charger.
For the HP2's they are a no brainer as you can see they are geared up for travelling africa and a battery failure somewhere in Zambia or Mozambique is just not an option.
As i understand it the batteries are also environmentally friendly if that makes a difference to you.

An old thread but I have been checking out batteries as I dont know the age of mine.
From what I can find (most website specs dont say) the 12AH lead acids used in the bikes have a 100Amp CCA - Cold Cranking Amps. That's really not much to heave over a big boxer on a cold morning, but I cant be sure its really that low. However some GSAs have a 19AH battery so should give a a bit more.
The 12 cell Ballistic gives 410CCA, comes with a three year warranty, weighs about 1/3 of the lead acid, its non toxic and cant spill if damaged.

They are not cheap compared to basic lead acids and ideally need a balance charger to keep all all cells at the same level but they dont need a conditioning charger (Optimate etc) so they look like the solution to any boxer's battery woes.
I have emailed the UK supplier to ask if the Ballistic balance charger is safe with the CanBus system.

These UK suppliers offer the 8 cell and 12 cell. Going by the Cold Cranking Amps (CCA) figures either would beat the standard lead acids sold for the R1200GS
