I was a MK1 kid myself 
Preserve it (chopper) cherish it, even frame it on a wall, but do not ride it, (bloody dangerous) then give your grand daughter a much safer bike to ride like a Brompton cycle. Much more practical and possibly more collectable in the future. Choppers should be framed, and in the past!
You could always borrow the Brompton later, for your wall collection!

A good buy for your Granddaughter, it'll be cool knocking about on it. They were only dangerous because lads were lads and we dicked about trying to do jumps, stunts and well...dick about
My first bicycle was a Chopper (T bar gear selector on the frame and red frame, which my Dad might've repainted at some point). My brother managed to wreck the others before they could be handed down to me so I didn't get into cycling as early as I might've done.
Dangerous only in wrong hands, I'm sure daughter will be perfectly safe unlike loons (boys) on bikes these days. Yes I agree we did tend to jump over things, me I never could afford a chopper, but would settle for anything with two wheels...no stabilizers!
My first new bike I bought myself, aged 16 with my tattie delivery round money, was an Eddie Merckx special, bright yellow it was, with his name on the side of it, most likely nothing like his winning days bike, didn't care!
Used to pass cars going down a steep hill, about 3 miles from my house, just to see their reaction of a push bike powering past them. More than likely I sold it to some pal that liked it. Don't recall.
Now I ride a TREK electric peddle assist road legal 250 w mountain bike, no jumping or speeding these days, just the occasional mad uphill dash. No longer the daredevil.
