I grew up in a place called Threlkeld which is near Keswick which was once in a county called Cumberland. Now its called Cumbria. Are we talking about the same county?

Indeed we are :thumb I live about 30 miles from Keswick in Workington.

I may have misunderstood

I had thought the Question was the Best Gear.
Hg doesnt even come Close to BKS, maybe if you want to buy an
overjacket ,a Hg may well Suffice .
But Nowt comes Close to quality leather.
Dont forget about a Decent Back Protector as well.
I use a Dainese for that.
Talking of Dainese , their Textiles will leave Hg in the Shade as well.

All them Boys thats wearin Hg are Wannabees ,
there the ones wey the gear two sizes too small , steppin bout like a
chicks on a Hot tin roof ! wey their Manhood stuk out in front of em
like a Boeing. The BMW Gear is worse ! . Be individual .
There is a Degree of Freudism involved in this purchase so be Careful.
Your Attire says a Lot about you and your Sexuality , Look thru the threads
and take a Look at the Pictures of Jockser , he has a look on his
Face ,,,, as if he were being Squeezed  Somethin lick the look
on the wee mauns face.

no point in talking about protection and clothing unless you've used it in anger.... ask someone who has been down the road in stuff and that'll give you a better idea of what's what....:D

If you want a set of leathers you could get a lot worse than a set of Crowtree leathers. Loads cheaper than BKS but with the same protection. Then just wear what you want over the top for keeping dry, HG stuff, & a heated vest for keeping warm :thumb Thats what I wear plus a pair of Kushitani gloves & Daytona or Sidi Courier boots :D

I think the jacket is around 350 and the trousers about 250... I could be wrong :nenau

I'd be surprised if there weren't some deals to be had this time of year...

it was more when i was looking last year. about £500 for the jacket IIRC.

it's goretex XCR which is big money whoever makes it. even the HG XCR stuff is pricey.

Well said that man!! (Unlike the loudmouth who bangs on about the "best gear" and rides in shorts and a vest top  )

Spend what you like, where you like, but remember this:-

All armour has to be CE approved.
All seams have to be double (preferably triple) stitched.
It has to fit properly.

As someone who has tested his gear, I'll stick my hand up for Hein Gericke :thumb

I have the BMW Tourguard jacket and pants. I live in a Northern Rainforest climate and they work great. I am always dry.

In the winter I also wear a Black Diamond heated vest and I am nice and toasty.:thumb

In the hot part of Summer, I wear a BMW air flow jacket.

How are ye Fixed fir a seta Boxs ?
Wifey has ordered the full set of aluminium BMW boxes. Apparently you save about £100 if you get the locks fitted at the factory as opposed to purchasing later. So BMW say anyhow.

I have the BMW Sananna 2 jacket/trousers with removable goretex liners. Freezing without a fleece underneath but very dry, and very well ventilated in summer with linings out. I would buy H-G clothing as most here recommend.

My boots are Hein Gericke TRG Rallye Goretex, same as the BMW Savanna Boot (all made by the same Italian makers Oxtar) and brilliant at £139 rather than the £200 that BMW wanted. Great waterproof touring enduro boot for a GS rider.

Hi Ian

I returned to 2 wheels last April and was in the same dilema. So I read al I could on this site and studied the for sale section, looked at the best in stores, looked at the best on fleabay and...

HG Voyager Jacket £200 -new for cold weather - I'd have another,
Flea Bay Gortex fully armoured IXS 2 piece textile suit £120 (gives me jacket number 2 and trousers number 1),
BMW Savanah II jacket bargained for free with the bike (consider this with your dealer),
HG summer vented trousers £50 - Waste of money should have gone 2nd hand
fleabayToureg Boots £40 new now 18 months old and still perfect
Lidel summer boots about £20 (?) suitable for wearing during work (office based)
Lidel mid season trousers £45 - excellent value now with HG flexible armour inserted
BMW gloves free with the bike
mid season gloves £12 Lidel - (now worn in preferance to the BMers)

oh, and get a set of Steptoes mits (£)40ish - save on your ice gloves and stay in control of the bar switches!

I know what some of the cries will be from the 'labeleer's' but I am chuffed with all this lot and most importantly feel 'sufficiently safe wearing it. Also I dont worry too much if it gets bashed, splashed and crashed.

For goodness sake its a GS! - wear Brut, its the only label you need:ymca

Oh.... and the extras,

Lidel Mag Tank bag £14 - stonkin bargain
lidel buffs - £1.50 - (wear 3 if you think the quality isnt the same)
Safety glasses (suntints, low light yellow and night clear) £2 a pair (I use the Shoi Synch and open face whenever possible)
Lidel thermal boot liners, gloves .......... didn't bother to remember the pennies

Think I'll change my name to Mr Chips.... you can call me 'Ol' Cheapo':rob

Labels - the only one I am proud to wear is Oxfam.:D

Great advice. Wifey is going to negotiate, as only she can, to see what "gizzits" BMW will part with.

I have looked at the Streetguard and I agree that it looks and sounds great. Unfortunately I am unable to find out how much it retails for; any clues?
dirt cheap to you guys on the other side of the pond, if they have your size and you don't mind ordering from the states. Mine just arrived and it is really great.
