No not really! Must be a parallel universe. Everytime I pass a church with a nativity scene outside I look to see if the donkey has been replaced by a 12gs being polished by shepherds with lambswool and the 3 kings are delivering wd40 or some other inhibitor.

Forgive my joke, it certainly was not aimed anywhere in your direction as I know that you do this bike stuff for real.

But Detox has a point when we get too precious, and perhaps the cleaning chemicals business gets a little too much attention from time to time.

Anyhow, I share your interest in finding the source of the oily deposit on the rear wheel, it could save my tranny some day.

ACF 50 - I have applied it in the same way as L Bob but I warm the can up first and it then comes out in a fine spray as opposed to shaving foam.

I am on my second can and paying £15 a can. Perhaps I will try and by a case.

They do a 1 litre bottle with a pump spray for about £30. I've used it twice on 2 bikes and it's still well over 3 quarters full.

Terry, if BMW would guarantee that I didn't have to wash it all winter and one wash in the summer would restore it to its former glory, without corrosion, I'd never touch the thing from November 'till March. Unfortunately, most bikes are rust buckets (BMW more than others) and I just see washing as preventative maintenance, no more, no less.

Gonna review the oily deposit thing when the weather improves as its difficult to tell the difference between road shite, brake dust, oil and anything else it could be at the moment.

Mine has been under layers of dirt for a good month (looked just like the pictures), and washed her up on crimbo eve (given that it was comparatively warm), a quick wash later and she came up sparkling, only the pipe headers were looking a bit natty, but some autosol shoult clean those up

Gave her a polish with Mr Sheen, then reapplied the FS365 copiously (i also cut out some cardboard to fashion protectors which meant i could spray the fork legs without having to worry about getting it on the brakes)

SHalln't wash her now for a good few weeks now i imagine.

And my tip...Autoglym Motorcycle cleaner...unbelievable stuff, just sprayed it on and washed it off and it had managed to dislodge some of the dirt. Must get some more Parasene (Paraffin/Kerosene mix available at Focus DIY (white bottle, 5L)) great for getting tar spots off things (even paintwork)
