After taking the decision a few weeks ago to keep hold of the RnineT and bend it to my will ( :) ) - I took the plunge with the guys at Pier City Customs and ordered a Wilbers shock for the '21 roadster.

Looking forwards to bolting it in when I get back from my hols and enjoying the roads this summer a lot more than I have done ! Will report back on my thoughts in due course.

Good move. I have Maxton suspension front and rear and is THE best mod i have on mine (and there are many)

I was (mistakenly?) thinking the roadsters/sport had ok to good suspension withe the Urban/Scrambler/Pure having the cheapy stuff fitted. This not the case?

I have Andreani on the front and Nitron on the back. Different bikes once the suspension is changed.

Mine is the 2014 (first) model classic/roadster. The suspension was dire as standard. With good suspension it is a fine handling agile fun bike. I think they improved it on later models.20230128_144004.jpg20221123_165013.jpg

Best mod you can make - - good quality boingy bits👍

Fitting Ohlins front and rear to my 21 Pure made a huge difference.

I've just taken a Wilburs 642, I believe, and a steering damper off my 2016 9t, prior to p/exing it. It will be for sale soon when I get round to posting an advert, if anyones interested....

Been looking on Pier City’s site and the Ohlins rear shock is almost same price as Wilbers and probably easier to sell later with all of it’s yellowness etc?!
Assuming there’s a good reason most of you choose Wilbers though??

Got details of the steering damper please

I'd take Wilbers over yellow shOhlins. You need to spend big money on Ohlins to get the good stuff.

I’ve got a Wilber’s shock for an R9T. Just sold the bike so will sell the shock on now.
Let me know if you’re interested?

First weekend back after hols and I found some time to dig the old shock out of the bike and fit the new Wilbers. My shed is too pokey to carry out the operation inside so it was an al-fresco surgery which went well until I got to the top shock bolt. Plenty of the appropriate words to entertain the neighbours and a few tool changes (no not the MAP gas ;)) and the job was a good un.

I only had time for a short run around the local roads and I think there is an improvement - but not as stark as I was expecting. I probably need to spend a bit more time out and about on it to get a better feel. If anything I think the shock was less "crashy" over the pot-holes during my short ride which I'll take as a good start. Things may loosen up a little with some more miles on it and a little fiddling with the set-up. Looking forwards to more miles on the Nine.
