new competition for ferries to santander

I treated SWMBO to a club class cabin on the Cap Finestre back from Bilbao, but it was worth it as we didn't disembark until 4pm. Loitering about in a standard cabin would be bad enough, never mind pacing the ship because you're board stupid.

I couldn't contemplate the refugee camp/reclining seat area (or camping at the other end for that matter) as I want a holiday, not practice for post-apocolyptic life

i used to take the cabin option, to cramped and overpriced, i just roll out my thermarest and down sleeping in the recliner area for a fab nights kip:D

Overpriced, but definitely not cramped (the cabin, not the wife) :aidan

Not sure it was worth an extra £180, but Trudi loved it

Club Class Clabin - :blast Cabin. :D
Oooh, that IS nice. :thumb2
SOMEday The Ogs shall travel in that much comfort and style. :rob
I see the Brittany ferry and a cabin as part of the holiday.
Way better than "irish" (me arse!) ferries.

Yes - they are now taking the piss with prices - but, as ever, ya pays yer money and takes yer choice. :nenau

got to agree thats the business:D the cabin looks great as well, well worth it:beerjug:

I did plymouth - santander return in a recliner seat back in 1980.

The 24 hour outward journey was a breeze, the bay was as calm as a mill pond and dolphins (more likely porpoises, but doesn't sound as romantic) swam alongside the boat.

The return journey was a biblical hell. What should have been a 24 hour sailing turned into 36 hours due to the storms and swells in the bay.

Stuck in a recliner gripping the arms for 36 hours while being shaken around and unable to escape the constant smell of sick and diesel fumes being swirled around the boat with people honking up all around was great fun.
I'd have surrendered my young ring piece to an eager jolly tar for the chance of a cabin.

Ye reading the LDLINES website it says first few trips are "operational" testing and 2014 bookings/prices are coming shortly, used LD several times and no gripes here, kipped in the private lounge area no probs, chill out and a beer looking forward to trying out a longer journey, save the landbridge route across france from le havre to st nazaire

Arrrgh - couldn't wait for my lunch break today to check the crossings and prices - but no, LD have delayed the publication of their timetable again: Our 2014 schedule will be available to book online from 13th December. :(

The suspense is killing me...

My one and only experience of LD Lines wasn't great. Last year, I travelled with them from Portsmouth to Le Havre overnight. Directed up to the top open deck, parked in a corner which had just been painted (no signs) - fresh blue paint all over my leather boots & tyres. Complained to staff who simply shrugged. Eventually, after refusing to leave my bike, someone came along armed with white spirit and rags.
Then we discovered the ferry was geared up for truck drivers and the services offered were rubbish. Hardly anywhere for folk to sit!
To top it all off, in the morning, our bikes were covered in sea salt :p1zzed:

The only positive thing were the beds - huge and comfortable. I'd want to read reviews before I booked again with them.

No doubt your not the only one disappointed by the delay.
As Elle points out, the new service may not be what everyone is used to (in comparison to BF/P+O), but I for one don`t want piano bars, and cabaret shows, so hopefully that`ll be reflected in the price

Poole - Santander

Now taking bookings; Booked Sat 31st May, return Sun 8th £160 sharing inside cabin. Not the best but ok. If there was 4 going, a cabin to your selves. They are a bit confused on their arrive back times, timetable sys 19:00, ticket shows 23:30. I cant see it being the later one, but they will sort out Monday and ring back. If anyone else books that crossing, let me know and I,ll have a beer with you.

Bill

I noticed on the ticket the journey duration is only 2hrs !!
there's definitely a few flaws in the booking system

I`ve Booked:
Outbound 29th June
Return 3rd August

there's a £3.20 surcharge for Credit cards, but after BF`s debarkle when ferries where cancelled, I`m taking no chances & having the reassurance of the card security

Did a quick quote yesterday, about £200 against £500 for Britanny Ferries I shall be able to put up with a bit smaller and older boat.
