Saw this on an ECMIA round up, looks great - so many interesting smaller bikes coming through at last; https://www.motorcyclenews.com/news...ail&utm_campaign=MCN-E-B-241108-FRINL-ENG-NEW

I like what they've done, just hope they have widened the gear ratios. I think the tank holding less than 9 liters will put off some potential buyers though.

I'm sure some of the after market suppliers will bring out a big travel tank as a bolt on, Acerbis perhaps.

You're right, but still who made the decision to put a mini bike gas tank on a 400cc dual sport motorcycle? It's not just a matter of transferring the petcock to a bigger plastic tank now because it's fuel injected so there's wiring, a fuel gauge, filter, and pump, in there.

I guess they are figuring a probable 150 mile range (now it's FI?) is enough and they need to keep the wet weight spec down as much as possible? Another 2 or 3 litres would have been nice though...

Saw this at Excel today, in yellow. Looks fantastic. Was told they are expecting the price in 2-4 weeks and deliveries for summer. He couldn’t say much about the price as they don’t know but for what it’s worth suggested more than £6,000 but less than £10,000. There are not 200 of each model coming to the UK in 2025 so likely to sell out quickly. You can put down a refundable deposit.

How was the show?

I hope it's going to be under £7500 otherwise I can't see them selling too many. the ktm 390 equivalent is only £5700 so £6500 would be better. .Were
the new 390 ktms there ?

Show was great. Quite busy but not horrendous so could easily get to see all the bikes. Lots of talks and displays going on, suffered Henry Cole for a few minutes but that was enough!

KTM stand was a strange atmosphere. I don’t know anything about their current financial situation but all the bikes were 2024 models and all discounted, some by a decent amount. Same with MV, on the same stand. Had a “closing down” feel.

I agree about the DRZ pricing but it is a lovely bike and I think will be positioned as a more “special” offering and more expensive than similar engine sized alternatives. Guy on the stand said a lot of interest was coming from people who had fond memories of the original, so it has a sort of retro feel but without being retro.

MSRP is $9,600 here. I spoke with my dealer the other day and he (along with his salesmen) all feel that's way too expensive so they didn't even order any.

It does seem quite expensive, but I guess it will be Japanese and reliable. I've gone for a 390 Adventure R at £6,600, and wouldnt want to pay too much more for this type of dualsport.

I agree and all things equal, compared to a 390 Adventure, I would pay more for made in Japan quality and reliability. But not $2,000, or almost 30%, more. And they're not equal, the KTM has a 3.8 gallon tank, 6-speed gearbox, along with some rider wind/weather protection, and the DRZ only has a 2.2 gallon tank, close ratio 5-speed, and no wind protection.

Prices now on the Suzuki UK website.
To save you looking, that'll be 7999* of your hard earned £sterling thank you very much.

The best reviewer in the UK has his take on the new bike

Really interesting review, and nice that Chris manages to highlight that slower, heavier and softer is not necessarily a bad thing.

As a bike for people to own and enjoy, rather than one to brag about that has capabilities that the owner will never exploit, Suzuki seem to be hitting the mark.

Got this as a loan bike today

It feels very light .
Bit lumpy low down and only five speed so quite tall geared.
I’m sure the S will be a good trail bike but can’t see this SM being a big seller , as it’s too expensive for starters.

How did you get on with it? Can you see yourself buying one?
Not a chance . It’s at least £2k overpriced and needs a sixth gear.
And even then , it’s not the most exciting motor for an SM.
I could see myself possibly having the S version but not at that price.

Nathan has similar thoughts 😜
