NEW ENGINE DUFFY's ..... RESULT IN PICS....OIL EVERYWHERE

I had a minor panic with my hexhead: New brake pads in the rear and a damp day = Brake dust and water....

:blast

Clean yer bike .... really thoroughly, and then re-assess .... :thumb2

well ...heres hoping your right and it is shit off the road

Well it's not really Rocket Science to determin where it's coming from, now is it?

Is it oil?
Is it tar?
Any oil leaks from rubber gators?

Give it all a good clean and ride again ... you'll see where it's coming from :nenau

I confess I've seen similar on my bike and had a moment where I thought it was oil... but with no apparent source and the wrong spray pattern, it's fairly clear it's not oil.

Me also; on the Whales trip @ easter this year, a couple of the chaps saw a similar pattern of crud on my swing arm.....basically it was road detrius clinging to the coating of ACF 50 :green gri

Looks like road tar, the pattern of the spray on the drive shaft housing shows the direction as the gunge being thrown forwards, not backwards as you might expect from an engine leak, plus that stuff is far to black for engine oil and too sticky, it would have run off the housing if it was engine oil, not just sit there.

Bike collected by BMW and noticed this oil trail this am. NOT TAR and not road dirt but still cant figure it out. No ENGINE warning lights of any kind.... weird..!!!

Going by those unbroken radial traces I'm amazed that you can't find the source. It doesn't indicate something is dripping but instead that liquid is 'running', like a tap!

I think that we are all awaiting the cause of this issue with baited breath!

Hope it's not too serious!

non insulting comment here : sometimes I think motorcycles are not for everyone. Ie , if this was my bike and came back from the workshop with black marks all over the rear end , the 1st thing I would do would be to wash the rear end and trace the source of the leak , and then assess what to do with the bike. I kinda thought that that is what any motorcycle owner would do. Apparently not. If you want to own a bike and rely entirely on your dealership , the experience may be less than ideal. Its like all the threads about how the bike shifts , any normal motorcyclist will adapt and learn how to get along with his box. Again, I thought this was entirely normal (eg , a harley shifts like crap too and you just have to learn) , but apparently not as well. Anyhow , am looking forward to the dealership's findings.

I hope the op will let us know the result?
