OK I'm contemplating changing the zorst for a sweet (but legal) tone and to liberate some horses. Any recommendations?
:)

I've got a Remus and there's no noticable power gain. Sounds nice though:)

Just had an Akro can onto Remus downpipes and I plan to get some dyno time. Sounds brilliant even with the baffle in, not sure whether or not to take the baffle out at present though. Will let you know results after dyno.

Do it properly, ditch the cat,Tfi fuel injection module or power commander ,K&N air filter ,some dyno time (most important),oh and some ear plugs :D

Run a search and you'll find lots on pipes for the 1200.

FWIW I run a Bos full system and there has been a very noticeable improvement in low down and midrange grunt plus a nicer top end rush. If you look at the Bos site they show power curves before and after - seat of the pants says they aren't far wrong :)

And, at the risk of sounding like a scratched record, I am planing of dynoing it soon, honest :D

How much wonga? also, any pics? (and is it legal?)
:)

Keep the standard can and have a great trip abroad with the money you'll save.

BM spend millions on R&D then we go and stick a bit of old drainpipe on the end.

Like they did on ABS / Servos - got that right didn't they ;)

Are you saying that because BMW choose to fit the WP shocks that they do, that, if I fit Ohlins the bike won't ride and handle better?

Seriously though, the stock exhaust is very good which is why so many after-market systems seem to offer no performance advantage.
There's no getting away though, from the fact that BMW also have to meet strict noise and emmisions regs which leads to the engine not running as well as it could...........

Step in one motorcyclist - we all love to tinker with bikes, always have and always will.
I started on a Puch Maxi, a 2nd hand barrel and a file to the exhaust port. 50 mph I got out of that, for all of 2 minutes before the engine seized - I've never looked back :D

Yeah, £500 odd quid is a lot of money (you could buy a winter hack for that!) but bikes have never been sensible things on which people make informed, objective descisions on (although some BMW owners seem to get periously close ;) ). Personaly I don't 'get' the money that peole speng on GS 'bling' and prefer to spend mine on things that make a physical difference to the ride / performance but, hey, each to their own :)

I really like the look of the Bos system but from the piccies on the Bos site it looks to me as if the setup would not be compatible with H&B bars. Can anyone confirm or know differrent?

My first road legal bike Puch maxi BTB 195L in blue are you still out there?
I was an apprentice at the time and spent hours on the motor with the help of a toolmaker ( bike nutter and weekend racer with a YDS5?, Tribsa and a Norton ES2) fettling and balancing. Had an expansion chamber made up and ported and polished. Quicker than a SS50 and would keep up with FS1E's. Actually handled in a querky way, no rear suspension. I must have looked a total pillock (OK still do) with my RAF sheepskin jacket and open face 1960's lid but it got me to work for my first year before I passed my test on a borrowed C15, next day Z750 twin Kawazaki.

£500 to change the engine note and gain 5 BHP and a trade off for max torque positioning is bloody expensive but each to there own.

Got *mine* 2nd hand so I'm happy :)

Puch Maxis really were great little bikes, like you it was my main transport for over a year - didn't even cost me anything, saw it in a neighbours garden rotting away and asked him how much he wanted for it. He just gave it to me and said I was doing him a favour getting rid of it for him.

I wonder how much a decent one would cost to buy now?

I saw a mint one for sale in Classic bike :D In blue, guy advertised it as

'Classic 1970's moped, mint condition with only 1400 miles' I was impressed, my mates at work and college called it the 'Tossers Kenwood mixer' He had it up for £475, yes £475. paid £45 for mine but I was earning £7 a week so I borrowed the money off my Dad and paid him back at £2 per week for 25 weeks (£50). he called it interest on his hard earned brass  Happy days :)
