coming into force "in the spring" Reported on Monday of this week by the Confederation of Passenger Transport.

All drivers of "all" vehicles will be required to carry a disposable breathalyser or face a 17 Euro fine. This will run alongside the HV vest and a spare pair of glasses (if worn) rules.

The breathalyser requirement is being introduced as part of a continuing program by President Sarkozy to reduce the number of road deaths in France.

you state that HV vest and spare glasses should be carried by all vehicles and now the breathalyser.as far as im aware the HV vest isnt compulsary for bikes yet (i carry one just in case) so is there any official confirmation on weather the breathalyser is compulsory for bikes (i cant see why it wouldnt be) do we need to start a thread in the equipment section for the cheapest, lightest, smallest and most tactical breathalyser? do we go for disposable or reusable, battery or solar power? will the french recognize uk made ones as adequate? whats the drink drive limit in france?

.... and in 2013

From FFMC website.

The Hi viz armband inscribed in an official notice (04 -01).
One feared it, and we had reason:- the obligation to carry a Hi viz, retro reflective arm band is announced, this 4th January by the minister of the Interieur. An official notice of 3rd january, stipulates that it will be obligatory for riders of two wheeled vehicles from Jan 2013.

Could somebody please tell me again about the gps camera warnings being made illegal too:D

Does anyone on here know if the hiviz patches the French have to have on there helmets has ever applied to us visiting or if its going to apply when the new hiviz patches on jackets is introduced next year?

A guy on the Pan forum I've started visiting since buying one has bought a French made Shark helmet and is really getting in a fizz about having to use the stickers as they're loose in the box.

I've always understood that they have had to have the 4 patches for some years, but that it didn't apply to us, and over 10 years I've made many trips and have never had any issues over it. But am I right?

You rarely see anyone with these stickers on here ( where I am at least) I am on a French biker forum and will ask the question...

Bought my helmet in UK (No Stickers) but France is the only EU Country requiring them.

In case of control (Police check), if these stickers are not glued to your helmet, you risk a fourth-class ticket (135 euros and 3 points off your driver's license) as your helmet will be considered "unauthorized" in the territory of France.

So if you buy a helmet in France it's up to you to look in the bottom of the box for the stickers and then glue them to the regulatory sites (Front, side and rear of the helmet).

Can only agree with Riders Rest 'rarely seen'.

Can johnny foreigner arbitrarily decide what they will / will not let in their European country even if it's EU approved? If they can, then I'll bet my number plate (which is UL legal) won't be there and therefore I'll be breaking their laws.

So, Hi-viz thingies, warning triangles, first aid kits, beam deflectors, stickers and now portable breathalysers?

I predict a huge upsurge in the sales of Vern's Worldbeaters.

As for the armbands... the Moto-Net site at http://www.moto-net.com/breve.php?RefBreve=4524 says that the officially approved brassards are too small to meet the spec demanded by the law. And the interior minister suggested they could be "stretched" a bit.

This law has come a long way since being announced as a fluorescent jacket for every biker - which quickly became a fluo or reflective jacket in the first draft of the law... and is now a simple armband of 150sq.cm surface area.
