New front metzeler tourance wobble problem

Wilbers? Budget doesn't stretch that far.:( Why do you ask?

My 1100GS rode like a bastard in Spain and Portugal the other week.

Fully loaded and with new Wilbers.

Coincidentally, I had a new (well, part worn) Tourance fitted before the trip.

Wobbled like feck into corners.

2.2 bar, two pressure gauges, the one in the bike shop and my Snap On gauge. Worth thinking about though:thumb

Wobbles.. (things not previously covered):

One front disc dragging ( if you have two)
Different levels of fork damping fluid
Wheels off centre/ out of line ( shaft drive...:blast )
Worn swinging arm bushings
Loose clothing
Shock absorbers.
Tight or restrictive cable/hoses/wiring looms around & about the headstock.
Alcohol....;)

It was a common problem with tourances a few years ago. The treads seemed to be skewed slightly. I had one that eventually stopped the slow speed weave after a couple of thousand miles.

Links going back to 2004 --> Wobble links

The only thing that changed overnight was the new tyre:confused:

Alcohol was not involved that evening:D

Yes but Tourance fronts are renowend for doing it, untill they get a few miles on :augie

that's settled it so for me. Mine has this 'feature' and its got tourances and they need a change after a few more K's.

Last Year

I had a new front Tourance fitted to my 1150gs at Micheldever Tyres
I rode for about 45 miles it wobbled like a barsteward 30-40 mph.
Took it straight back It was changed without question by one of the bike fitters.
Problem solved 3000 + miles on still runs true.
Mechanics response was it happens occasionally with Tourances

If you hunt through posts from a couple of years ago you will find that Metzler moulded a bad batch. I was unlucky enough to change my front at that time and had exactly the same problem, wobble up to 30mph then OKish. Protyre rebalanced the wheel but it made no difference. They changed it for a different batch tyre and the problem went away.I received a letter of apology from Metzler some months later. This sounds like the same problem.

will keep this in mind as I bought a pair from busters, in that batch.
my old ones just won't wear out.
so may be a while till they get fitted.

Had exactly the same thing on my Transalp - checked all the bearings etc. was nearly convinced the frame was cracked or something, drove me crazy. Then put a Hedenau K60 on the front and the bike is rock solid now... going to give Tourances a miss from now and the K60 is a great tyre!!
