New Full Exhaust. How to remove the flappy valve etc.

Hi all,

Newbie here and need some advice or step by step guide to removing the flappy valves etc. I have done a search and lots come up about flappy valves and removing the whole assembly etc but is there a guide etc to actually doing it? I'm kinda okay with a spanner etc but any advice would be greatly appreciated. Will be looking to do this sometime this afternoon.

You can go to Touratech or Wunderlich and buy a tube 100mm long for about £30 or you can go to an exhaust supplier and get an offcut for a few pence.

Take off the silencer.
Remove the flap valve at head joint.
Unbolt the motor up under the seat area and disconnect its electrics. No need to disconnect the valve motor cables.
Fit new tube in place of flappy valve and replace exhaust can You may need to hacksaw four slots into the end of the new tube so the clamps can grip it down. Dont cut too deep.

Pack away and store the flappy valve and motor in case you want to put the bike back to standard. Soaking the valve in a tin of diesel fuel will eventually free off the seized bushes.
 
Your flappy valve is connected by two cables to a servo motor.
Take off your standard can, remove the flappy valve from your down pipes.
The servo motor is held on by one screw, which you can easily see.
Remove the screw, pull out the servo and disconnect an electrical plug on the servo.
All done.
You are left the valve and the servo connected by the two cables, put away somewhere safe.
You can cover the now unused connector on the bike with self amalgamating tape to keep it happy.
Your bike will highlight a fault when connected to diagnostic equipment BUT do not worry as the bike will run as normal and no fault will be shown on dash.

Is there any benefits from removing it if you are putting the stock can back on?
 
I'm not putting stock can on I'm replacing it with a full akra system - cheers
 
Open the cover of the flappy valve thing and disconnect the wires. at both ends

Remove exhaust

Replace exhaust

Job done

Fault code will show at service but dont worry about it
