I read a long informative thread about the Lowrance iWay 500c on Advrider. Seems some have a dialogue going with Lowrance about the use of this unit on motorcycles. It looks interesting so I emailed Lowrance asking about availability in Europe, they responded immediately saying around October.
Maybe this will give Garmin and TomTom some competition.
Check it out on the Lowrance website.

lets see them mount the 10" version:)

The iWay 500C is still running off an internal HD - thought that was bad on a motorcycle due to vibration issues?

The GlobalMap Baja 480C might be a better bet as it uses SD or MMC cards instead of an internal HD, wouldn't it?

That is exactly what I thought but it looks like Lowrance are happy about it. Maybe they know something we, and Garmin, don't!

.. my sources say they have and is bl**dy clever - its disengages/ disables the head just the split second before it detects shock. It needs European mapping and the case takes a RAM diamond base. Still a few tweaks needed for bikers, such as audio, which could be solved with a version of QPAC.
