Jaysus lads, I just got a new GS12 last week, put a 2nd socket kit on it myself, plugged in the autocom and rode it for about 400Kms so far. Nothing fell off, it runs ok, doesn't seem to be trailing oil and no electrical breakdowns.... is it waiting till i am in tuscany in June to fail on me?? Maybe i should go on my 6yr old R1 just in case! BTW, picked a Garmin 276c ... handlebar mount or over clocks ?

Had mine since February, 2500 miles and nothing fallen off or broken either, not wishing to tempt fate but getting better na better with each ride. :D

Personally having tried the BMW Navigator II fitted on the bars I much prefer it in it's current position over the clocks using the Mpttorad Concepts mount. Beautifully made and means you don't have to drop your eyes off the road.

You can find it here

Mine was OK until an oil leak apeared from between engine/gearbox last weekend 1 week after 6K/amnual service

Lucky realy as I am going to Austria in just over 2 weeks :spitfire

It doesn't matter how many times I drown it in fords, drop it on rocky trails or throw it up the road, the damn thing just keeps on going. I think I'll complain :spitfire

only problem with mine is that the front wheel wont stay on the ground under acceleration

Back wheel pops up under heavy braking too!

Heap of poo - my headlight bulb blew last week after 15000 miles. Sell the bike, now, quick :D

Andres

I agree the 1200 is a load of rubbish, its cost me a fortune in shiny bits and I have to keep filling it with petrol because I ride it too much. :clap

In the last twelve months the starter button worked automatically on wet days when I switched the ignition on . Damn dealer replaced it under warranty and left me nothing to whinge about, contentment is being forced upon me, not good, no siree, there must be something to fuel negative prejudice; hard to clean, that's it, no good - very hard to clean. Now ill have to go for a spin to cheer up, damn, damn and blast. It's hopeless really.

I decided against handlebar mount and went to above the clocks as that required less eye/head movement and keeps them on the road more... Went for Dutchmans GPS ali mount - perfect.

Thanks for that Thunder.

Not so sure

Lovley day in Kerry today, had to go to Cork and took the bike, wow so good, even turned off the heated grips, so macho. I took the long way around but without the film crew and just as well really. Front R indicator failed. I mean the bike is a year old, you can not be serious BMW, not good enough. Anyway decide not to call BMW assist and press on with jutted jaw but large yelow bug splats on my visor, like is this for real, BMW whats going on. Still pressed on and the fuel warning light comes on half way through a bend and after 340 kiometers - long bend eh! - I need advice here, should I formally complain to BMW, perhaps I should have taken the car, Jusus this is confusing, HELP

Strange that - my engine/gearbox leak started just after the 6k service also.

Don't worry - I had the same problem.
Fixed under warranty - no further probs. Get your dealer to do it quickly for you

All righty then!

Well thats it then - it must be the same guy with different Identities who has the only dud GS 1200 with all the problems i'm reading about! ... Good .... got 800 Kms on it now ... starting to enjoy it ... 250k to the countdown fuel gauge - is that good ? ... I notice i'm goin a bit slower than i was on the sportsbike, but i am not nearly as sore - or as tired! And i'm enjoying it more! This might have been a good idea after all ... met another GS on the Wicklow gap yesterday - he was flying low in the opposite direction, so no chat .... :beerjug:

Thanks for that mate - i am getting the gps from Touratech in Germany and they are pushing their mount - your one seems cleaner .... we'll see

How is it that everyone else seems to get over 200 miles before the count down? The most I seem to have managed is around 180 or perhaps 190. The usual is around 160 to 170!

Mind you, now that I have a Remus pipe on, I am sure it is running rich - which won't help (but it sounds good :thumb ).

Kai :( :nenau

Wasted Money

13 month, 8,000 miles and no snags! What's the point in a shed full of expensive tools? Can't make up my mind whether to sell the bike, tools or the shed. :nenau

Nah, you're not alone. I typically get about 170-180 to the countdown and therefore manage 220-225 to zero 9although i have been well past that point a couple of times).

This generally equals about 45 mpg/10 miles per litre when checked at the fill-up. Which is absolutely fine. You're obviously riding, ahem, enthusiastically which is also fine. The others are riding like pussies.
