Morning all...

My 2019 GSA TE is 3 next August. I was intending to replace with a new one but, owing to the shambles that has been Covid , I find I only have 8k miles on the bike. Although the bike isnt 3 until August, I was advised by the sales guy (opinions appreciated on this) to look at p/ex around the start of the biking season next year to secure the best price/deal. The bike is on PCP on a deal I'm reasonably content with.. However, I really like this bike and am swaying towards hanging on another year (and re financing) at least. I dont really want to be increasing my monthly payments - nor paying any extra "money down" on another as this bike does all I want beautifully.

Any thoughts? What are your experiences fellow GSers when swapping bikes on the BMW PCP scheme?

Wait until August, pay off the balloon...keep the bike and just ride it. Stop being beholden to PCP/Sales people
 
I doubt many salespeople would tell you to keep it. They can always find a plausible reason for you to give them business. JJH

Normally November, December when they start throwing free Sat nav's or panniers if registered before 31 Dec etc.
 
Keep it another year and wait for the new model if thats when its due. If you can pay it off then do so and keep it as the interest rate on the PCP is daylight robbery. Far better to take out a 5 year tesco etc loan at current rates
 
I would buy an extended warranty and keep your bike until the R1300GSA comes out in a couple years.

That’s a good point
A bank loan is a much cheaper interest rate
 
The main thing to remember is, PCP deals are there to increase sales and tie you to the brand. It’s not there to help the customer at all . Get a cheap bank loan and keep it if you are happy with it.

I don't understand why you are even considering changing the bike

Low miles
Completely happy with it
Comfortable with financing arrangements


Just ride it and enjoy it
 
Its tricky once you step foot into PCP land. Its a great marketing strategy which on the face of it looks great and it does allow for the cost to be spread a little more affordably. The sticking point is where you are now - stay with it or change. My advice is to break the cycle. If you are happy with the bike (sounds like you are) then stay with what you have. Sort out the re-financing it (which will be lower monthly payments and get a warranty.
 
I just purchased a 2019 R1250 GSA in June this year, and it has 5k on the clock. Cost me 12k to change. I was looking into PCPs on new ones, but as I dont do that many miles, I didn't see the point. If I were you, and if you REALLY wanted to upgrade, just look at a nearly new/demo bike from the dealer with full warranty - might only cost you a couple of grand to swap. The other option (in my opinion) is to stick with what you have!

I'm now saving for a Triumph Street Triple RS as a 2nd bike :) My bank loan was 2.8% - less than half a PCP APR :D
 
Sell the soulless bike, pay off the PCP thing and go buy an 1150 GS. :thumb2
No loan and a better bike. :D
 
You'll love the Triumph Street Triple RS 765, I had to back to back new ones, still miss it ,and it's certainly a bike that I will revisit in the not too distant future. Just watch you're license.
 
It's a head versus heart decision. In my case the heart usually prevails. Go on, change. You know its for the best
