Hi guys,

It's been a while since I frequented this forum but thought I'd better stay in touch, especially since I ordered a new GSA yesterday at Rainbows!

I bought an 08 GSA from them last year and loved every minute of it... Until the renewal for the warranty came through and I nearly had a heart attack. On top of the annual service it's due, MOT and tax, it came out at a hefty sum for the year and that's before I look at consumables that may need replacing.

I ummed and ahhed about getting another used bike, trading it in for a new one or keeping the one I have but all said and done, I decided it was worth it to trade up to a new one. I'm just finding it hard to come to terms with how much it's cost me for the privilege, despite going over the numbers over and over again!!

Anyway, that aside I'm taking delivery of a new R1200 GSA this Saturday with the following spec:

Smoke grey metallic matte
Dynamic and Premium Packs

The following were thrown in for free:

Panniers (BMW current offer with all new GS's)
Top box and fittings
Pyramid fenda extenda
Carry straps and handles for panniers
Free first service (600 miles)
All accessories from old bike transferred (Garmin satnav, light guards etc)
Full tank of fuel

Their final offer on my p/x was only £500 less than what I paid for it 12 months ago too so I was quite pleased with my deal overall.

I will try and take some pictures when I get her home while it's all new and shiny!

Seriously though, what have I done?!

+1:thumb on the good deal, if you factor in the price of the free accessories you've been given into the deal it'll make the price to change a lot sweeter.

If you need to know, the cost to change came in at £6750, however, taking off the cost of the freebies brings it down to about £5500 or thereabouts.

I worked out that a new bike, even taking into account depreciation and cost to change this time, would cost me in the region of £2500 over 2 years. This included all the above such as freebies on the new bike, cost of warranty, tax, MOT, servicing, consumables and depreciation on the new bike but not including any further depreciation on the old bike. This would probably bring the cost over 2 years down to under £2000 or somewhere in that region.

You can dress it up any way you like, especially if you start comparing used costs against new such as warranty, MOT and tax etc but everyone will have a different figure I'm sure.

When i buy a new bike can i take you with me please.....good luck with the new bike.

CONGRATS!!!

For the bike plus the 2 packs it retails at £14525

RRP of an R1200 GS Adv - £11600
Dynamic pack - £1395
Premium pack - £1530

Great choice, I have the same bike and this is the fastest colour btw :thumb

Between £1k and £1.3k is the total value that you can normally get with the usual panniers offer, although to me what matters most is the total net cost to change. So in the end if you get great p/x and lots of freebies you have the best possible scenario!

Enjoy...
