Right I am 83% sure that I am getting a new GSA (the only fly in the ointment is the way the GS handled...fooking fantastic!)... Anyway as you fine people know you can get the GSA at no extra cost with off road gearing and intimidate tyres... I don't have the experience to take the bike (especially a new one) off road without some training... So is it worth getting the it with the off road set up or go road and then get the gearing sorted.. And does the second option cost if done at a later date?

Hi Billy,

Picked up my new GSA 30th about 3 weeks ago. I went for the road oriented tyres with the enduro box. Reason being I do a lot of commuting and filtering and wanted to have to ride the clutch as little as possible.
So far it's been the right choice for me, glad I chose the lower gearing.

Like the look of the knobbly tyres but given I'm 90/10 road / off road it wasn't worth it.

Cheers - enjoy the new bike :clap

So how does it effect handling, excelleration, top end and stuff?

If you're not experienced off-road and don't feel confident I'd go for road tyres to start with. You can always change them later - TKC80s are not too expensive for a pair and you might prefer different tyres anyway, like Heidenau K60s.

As for the enduro box - I don't think it's officially possible to change later, but many people prefer the lower first gear for town work anyway so I'd get it.

AFAIK, the enduro box is just a lower first gear. Won't affect your top end at all. Acceleration and handling effects are probably minimal. It just means you won't need to slip the clutch so much at lower speeds.

I'm sure someone with more experience with the two gearboxes will be along to correct me in a minute :D

+1 all that :nod

Get the Enduro low 1st Gear.....................forget the tyres:blast

£15k worth of 12GSA, lying on it's side in a muddy ditch will make you:tears:tears:tears

the bike feels better with the enduro box, it is a little lower geared in first but you wont think that it is too low.

I went for the enduro box with road tyres and if I was getting another I would take the same.

I got my brand new GSA on Monday and kept with the road spec, no complaints so far although not off road, have been riding single lane farm roads, which are muddy and twisty and also jumped on some fast A roads and even a burn on the motorway.
I don't think you can go wrong whatever your choice, this bike just takes on everything!!!
(I traded in my 1200GS,which i thought was magic but the Adventure is better in so many ways)
Enjoy it which ever way you decide!!!!!

I recommend that the only off road you need is over the pavement, onto your drive and into your garage after a ride:thumb

I have been told to remember that speed is your friend, relax, straighten your arms and roll when you fall off. :aidan
