The reason I have my reservations after looking into it is, after its sprayed on everything it apparently leave a film that attracts crud:nenau

As we're almost out of winter is it necessary now or should I leave it until much later this year?

NB. The bike is not in everyday use:tears, it's parked in a garage:D, I do want to use it off road occassionally:eek and it will see rain occassionally:eek:?

Many thanks :thumb2

No need now the salt has gone but do so next October ,for now enjoy it and give it a clean when its dirty:thumb

Nah - the salt stays about for quite a while and is worst in the summer as it's warmer. Just look at the white 'sheen' on quite a few roads at the moment!

Get that protective coating on ASAP so it can get into those nooks and crannies before any salt particles.

If you'd have bought a shiny bike to look at and not ride you'd have bought a Harley!! ;)

I did :augie

But now she's gone, despite being covered in ACF50 and shortly to be replaced by another GS

- now where's the ACF50 gone?

:JB

I ride everyday and I have just cleaned my 08 GSA 4mths. after giving it a good ACF 50 prior to the winter. It has come up like new and I have just re-coated with some more:thumb2

As a general rule of thumb salt is an issue till the end of April.
I acf-50 mine mid dec, I took it off 2 weeks ago. But after every ride ( even during the summer), I spray the bike over. Using one of these garden pump spray bottles ( about 40L capacity from B&Q), that contains water ( obviously) and cheap tesco's car shampoo, this takes any salt off.
Been doing on the gsa and my divi 900, never had issues with corrosion using this method, as it is quick. Sorry I am not one for polishing my bike up after every ride, I brought it to ride it.

I did on my 1200.....Used in all weathers.....Sold recently for good money.....Not a mark on it.......:thumb

If you don`t want the hassle or expense of coating ACF50 for the summer months, just use WD40 or FS365 after every wash which protects and keeps it shiny:thumb.

Leave the ACF until it gets cold again.

I'd stick the ACF on, with a bit of elbow grease it comes off again for nowt, unlike corrosion which costs money to put right.

So speaks the voice of bitter experience!

If you're using the bike daily in all weathers then ACF it

If like me you check the forecast before using and occaisionally get caught out in the rain don't bother just give it a good rinse off when you get home or the following day.

However I regularly dowse the front engine cover in ACF as its a known spot for corrosion but thats a whole other story...................

It has been a pretty dry winter so far with plenty of salt used on the roads but little rain to wash it away. The roads down south have plenty of salt still on them if you look closely, especially in the bits of road where cars don't drive over but bikes might.

I'm keeping ACF50/FS365 in use until at least early May, when the rains should have cleared away the detritus of winter. My bike is in permanent use and always cleans up like new despite being 5 years old.

rust whaa

hi carlb
yep is the answer ,lag the bike in oil and ac50 and waxoyl, then three years time you will be pleased , will look like the bike is used two ,plenty of issues on the site with ,dare i say CORROSION . :blast.
end of the day when you trade them in, you get almost nothing anyway .:(
