Hi,

Thought I would register so I can find out about the GS.
Currently I'm selling my V Twin sorts bike and would like to puchase a BMW. I've been riding for about 9 years and all of which have been on a sports bike. The time has come for me to try something different.

Here is my beast at the moment. This is me as Castle Combe on my Bike Safe event 2 weeks ago.
The day was great, it gave you a chance to try the bike safe ride out for an hour and then gave you 15 minutes on the track. As I've never done a track day or bike safe so it was a great day

Greetings and salutations, welcome to the site....:thumb2

As stated, lots to choose from, so go and test ride....then test ride them again, and you'll find the right one for whatever you want to do with it....have fun :D

ooh nice pic garvey, that looks like alot of serious fun right there! Track days are on my hit list.

Enjoy your stay here at UKGSer, post as many questions as you wish and please try the search facility. Its amazing what info we have archived away which may be of some use to you. The FS&W section section gets quite busy, its worth keeping an eye out there too, there have been some bargains to be had just of late but you'll need to be a site sponsor to gain full access to it .... it might be worth considering for the small proce of £12.

Have fun ... I'm just going to shift your thread over to another part of our section :thumb2

There is a long thread for people thinking of buying a GS somewhere, laods of great info in that if you can dig it up :thumb2

Short version is your not alone, many here came from sportsbikes and few regret it, bikes like the GS can be fun on any road, regardless of surface, potholes and to a degree weather, I ride a lot more often and almost year round and find every ride a joy, where often on the sportsbike I would just get frustrated at constantly getting stuck behind cars.

Get a long test ride, these bikes are very odd after years of sportsbikes so you need a good long ride to get "into" them and make sure you take to some back lanes :thumb2

I have since moved on from a GS and now have a Super Tenere, which is every bit as good as the GS with lower running costs, there are many other great bikes out there such as the Multistrada (declined one myself as it seemed every bit as likely to get me locked up as my ZZR1400) and the Guzzi Stelvio (I loved it, the Mrs hated it) so if you don't gel with the GS there are other options as every manufacturer is now on the bandwagon.

Thank you for all for the replies.

I would be looking at a 1100 or if I managed to sell my RSV for the right price a 1150, sadly my budget will not go to a 1200.

I love the look of the 1150 and if I'm honest is the one I'm after.
So far I have three people wanting to view my RSV and not turning up, its pain as I saw a lovely Yellow 1150 for sale with all the kit and great price at the time but now sold.

Yes I did have a quick look at the for sale section and noticed I was unable to read any posts. think I will wait and see if I sell mine before I subscribe :)

spending a lot of time on hear reading, lots of information, great site.

thanks
